deirdre bolton filling in for charles payne. deirdre: i'm deirdre bolton in for charles payne. news out of hong kong. its leader withdrawing the china extradition bill, the last straw for protesters. we'll take you right now. jennifer schoenberger is standing by. she is is at the fed with the "beige book" report. jennifer, what stands out to you. reporter: manufacturing activity declined around most of the 12 federal reserve banks in august. there was a little bit of softening around the edges in a couple of districts. with the exception of four districts philly, chicago, new york, dallas we saw manufacturing decline across this country. manufacturers are grappling of course with trade uncertainty, tariffs and slowing global growth. some are choosing to cut cap-ex, some are not. it's a little bit of a mixed picture. in st. louis, production, new hires, new orders actually declined across the board for manufacturers. that is the first time they saw

house lawmakers asking facebook, amazon, apple, google to turn over internal documents an deirdre bolton live in the newsroom with the latest on this story. reporter: connell, a bipartisan group of lawmakers want to see internal documents. these are emails to and from execs at four companies you mentioned by october 14th this is part of a sweeping antitrust investigation. house members demanding copies of email exchanges to and from amazon's jeff bezos, facebook's mark zuckerberg, apple's tim cook, then a lot of the early founders from google. larry page, sergey brin, eric schmidt. judiciary committee chairman, representative jerry nadler saying that the documents will help the committee understand, whether quote, they are using their market power in ways that hurt consumers and stop competition. they provided significant benefits to consumers. they also all maintain that they have competition. in other words each one is essentially tried to say we're not a monopoly. they have also expressed a willingness to work with authorities. if you look how the stocks have been performing, facebook

deirdre bosa has the latest on this developing story. >> morgan, that jump that you're seeing in ride-sharingcks underlines that this is far from a done deal. uber and lyft have been lobbying hard against this bill and governor newsom could minimize the impact on their businesses jeffreys says fear not ab-5 and what changes answering everything but nothing. so this is complicated the bill does not go into effect until january 1st. that leaves time for uber and lyft to make a deal with newsom. if they cannot, the interpretation of the law and its effects on these companies is still uncertain beyond that, both companies have put aside $60 million for a ballot measure that would let californians vote against their inclusion in this bill guys, there is also a very good reason that uber and lyft are fighting this so aggressively, almost like their future depended on it, because it does. industry officials have estimated classifying drivers as employees could raise their costs by 20% to 30%, putting off that path to profitability morgan stanley estimates it could hit uber's future contribution prof
