good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. a really tragic story and really touched firefighters and paramedics at the deep of their core because they work so hard to get these kids back up to life after they were pulled from that fire unconscious and without any pulse. sadly they ended up losing that 5-year-old little girl. the 15-year-old uncle is fighting for his life at this hour here at the hospital in the burn unit. the 24-year-old father is also in the burn unit. they both suffered severe smoke inhalation besides their burns as well. the flames broke out in capitol heights duplex around 4:30 yesterday evening. when firefighters arrived to the 6300 block of carrington court, they found the dad in the front yard. he was telling crews that those two children were trapped inside the home. both kids were rescued from the fire via the second floor window and were unconscious. i said they had no pulse but paramedics were able to revive them. sadly, though, they found out about six hours later the 5- year-old didn't make it. sh

good morning, delia. this is a very confusing story. >> reporter: andrea, it certainly is and it's a strange and really a tragic turn of events because at the end of the day it appears unfortunately that three young children may be orphaned at the end of the situation. police have already confirmed that their mother was killed right here behind me in this parking lot on center street. this is just steps away from the family home and now police believe they may have found their father's body. we first brought you this story as breaking news in yesterday morning's broadcast. police believe around midnight wednesday 32-year-old fitsum gebretatios hit and killed his wife in the parking lot of their apartment complex here in herndon on center street. then police say he sped off, slamming his black toyota car into several parked vehicles just down the block. more than 17 hours later police discovered a man's body in a nearby creek. >> the body is similar in description to the subject person of interest we were

delia goncalves is live in washington hospital with more. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, mike, andrea. a very difficult story, especially for neighbors and family members of this small, close-knit family who lived inside of that home in capitol heights. the girl's father, 24 years old, we're told he suffered severe burns over 50% of his body. her 15-year-old uncle was also burned and this morning he is in critical condition here at washington hospital center. when firefighters arrived to the carrington court duplex yesterday evening, flames were shooting out of the second floor window we're told. the 24-year-old father was in the front yard telling rescue crews the children were trapped inside. both kids were pulled from the second floor windows. paramedics worked very hard, were able to revive both kids but later we learned the 5-year- old little girl passed. >> just want my cousins to be all right. talking to my mom on the phone, you seen how hysterical she was and how she couldn't drive. it was just eating me up. the girl
