delia goncalves is live at the courthouse in fredricksburg.what more do we know about the suspect steven briel? >> reporter: we know steven briel was 30 years old, not your typical college age student. however, we know he was a student at mary washington for many years on and off. while he lives with the victim, denot have a personal relationship with her. so when he comes to court agent later this morning in about two and a half hours, hopefully we'll learn more about exact play what happened on friday. that was when this young lady was murdered. all we know right now is that steven briel, police say, strange gamed his roommate to death in their fredricksburg home. 20-year-old grace mann of falls church was a junior at university of mary washington. a female roommate found her, tried to perform cpr and called 911. the suspect took off when police arrived to the house leading to a lockdown on campus. but of course he was eventually caught, arrested, charged with murder and abduction. the victim many say was an inspiration to so many on campus

. >> delia goncalves joins us live. take us to the top on this. >> reporter: we got off the phone recently with police and got an update for you on the suspect who was shot on h street. he is out of surgery in stable condition. a police sergeant was also shot in the leg and is recovering from home. but take a look here on h street, an active scene. this is where that wild two- hour police chase ended around 7:30 last night. but it all started around 5:30 on 3rd street northeast when police say the suspect kidnapped his girlfriend at gun point. he then drove to the census bureau in suitland, shot and killed a guard and sped off back here towards the district crisscrossing his way through d.c., shooting at police the whole time. he eventually drove right back here to h street. it ended in a crash and a gunfight in front of a number of witnesses. no one else was hurt. again that police officer was struck and was shot in the leg. is he recovering. the suspect was shot as well and he is recovering in stable condition. the gi
