today is the managing director of sustainability at delta airlines. the airline industry has grain baggage. by 2050, more than 12 billion passengers will fly every year, more than 63,000 commercial aircraft needed. that means aviation fuel demand will top 14.2 million barrels per day. emissions will exceed two gigatons of co2 a year. here are some options, a battery like in a tesla, hydrogen, but that requires an entirely new plane, or sustainable aviation fuel made from bio waste or cow methane emissions that can be mixed with jet fuel. they can emit as much as 67% fewer emissions in their oil equivalent, but they are not magic. they would only mitigate a fraction in 2050, less than 1%. plus, the economics are not great. there are only two producers right now and prices are eight times more expensive than regular jet fuel. delta aims to replace 8% of its green fuel and agreed to by millions of supplies from two startups the next years. icon up with -- i caught up with delta and asked what the company engine will look like in 30 years. >> there is not

samantha: this actually started, it stems from a documentary i did on the mississippi delta chinese. and i needed to find the right hook to sell the story of the chinese-americans in the mississippi delta. chinese-american history is not sexy. it took me almost 20 years to find the right way to tell the story compelling enough to bring in a full audience. and i had the good fortune of meeting dr. gwendolyn gong, who had done a tremendous amount of research on the veterans, the service personnel from the mississippi delta. and from there, we discussed and talked about how to create a three-part series that aired on pbs on the chinese of the mississippi delta. that got me interested in the world war ii veterans. >> so honor and duty as a compendium that lists all 22,000 plus chinese-americans that served in world war ii, is that correct? >> this research was conducted over three years time. more than three years. we have been able to identify 22,827 world war ii vets. we were able to verify their service through public domain sites, public information sites, the national archives, and

is mainly in the central valley but it does include the delta working its way over to the straight and we should also think of this as impacting the north mountains up around wine country. the landscape is quite dry. but there is a trigger mechanism that is bringing out this red flag warning. and that is the offshore wind. and if we look at how this plays out, you can see the uptake in the colors now as we get into tomorrow morning. trying to get over the mountains in wine country. that's where this really dry actor is. it goes up and over and then the downslope is here. you have 30 to 40 mile-per-hour winds and that raises a concern. but this is not a particularly strong offshore wind event. however, it is still a very serious red flag warning. because of this. and that shows you the percent of rainfall since october first. no surprise we are way below where we should've gotten. in the 10 to 20% range for many of those hills. i will be back with most of this forecast coming up. low 90s for a daytime high. you will see it in just a few. >>> most of the bay area is in extreme drought co

we have this very dry northwesterly wind blowing across the central valley and through the delta and that's going to increase the chance that any sparks that do get going in any vegetation could spread rapidly because we are not only seeing these high winds but some hot temperatures and low humidity so there could be a faster rate of spread of any sparks today. we have to be really careful as our temperatures today reach 92 degrees in fairfield. we'll see a high of 91 in antioch. oakland today cooler, reaching 80 degrees there and 7 in san francisco. we can see there will be a wide range in temperatures across all of our microclimates. very high fire danger once again for some spots today. we're watching dates throughout morning. >> that's right, kari. >>> speaking of that fire danger, staffing up, fire crews will be on alert as fire danger looms. sergio quintana has more. >> reporter: the strong winds died down tonight. earlier residents said there were strong gusts. earlier today a small grass fire that broke out near vacaville, it was knocked down pretty quickly by firefighters. t
