so in 2016 -- first of all, the folks that are elected to the democratic national committee, every state has a handful of spots on the dnc. these are pretty coveted seats. virginia has five elected representatives to the democratic national committee. these are infamous superdelegate positions. when i decided to run for the position in 2016, most of my very early supporters came from my friends, millennials, progressives. i didn't really have the -- the strongest supporters came from that community as opposed to my own community. it's difficult. when folks put themselves out there, people from our community, when we step up to run for office, it's not easy. it really isn't. when we are talking about running for office during this administration, administration that again on a day to day basis is demonizing our community, is attacking us. you know, folks like everybody in this room that is working on issues that were trying to fight for our communities, trying to defend our rights and liberties and individuals running for our community are the best people that will be able to fight for us

just a month after the russians succe successfully hacked the democratic national committee. and then in january of 2016, cohen opened up his correspondence with putin's spokesman, his press secretary, about the possible deal. so he's right in the putin world there. by may, cohen was actively planning a trip to russia in connection with their project. and was arranging a separate trip for trump, himself, to do the same. anyway, cohen continued those preparations through june of 2016, right in the middle l of e campaign, when donald trump junior famously met with russians offering dirt on hillary clinton on the 9th of june 2016. four days later cohen abruptly canceled his trip to russia on june 14th. that's the same day the dnc publicly announced their servers had been breached, hacked into by russian intelligence. wow. the next day on june 15th, the first hacked materials from the dnc were released by a russian entity called guccifer 2.0 and wikileaks then began releasing the dnc's e-mails the next month in jewuly of 2016. congressman, this is so intertwined and i keep thinki

national committees? >> going back to 2007. the firm shows up in records going back and long before that. they represented -- the firm handled barack obama's 2008 and 2012 campaigns. they represented the democraticnal committee the super pac , committees. this is a firm that does a lot of work for political committees. carol: and more recently, for bill nelson. tell us what he was doing. bill: he tweeted he was going to go down to florida and look at this close result. he filed a number of lawsuits down there, trying to overturn how local officials were interpreting election law. in other cases, it was the laws. he had one major victory, which is how they evaluate whether or not an absentee ballot and a provisional ballot is cast and should be counted, in terms of matching signatures between what the voter registration looks like compared to what is on the ballot. that will probably result in a change in florida election law. carol: you write that this man boosted his party's election chances in 2020. everyone is looking ahead to the presidential election in a couple of years. bill: after 2016, democrats put a lot of emphasis on things like redistricting fights, challenging voter id laws. mark e

joining us now the chairman of the democratic national committee. good to have you with us tonight. don't have to ask you if you oppose governor scott's lawsuits. can you understand the frustration when time and again this democratic strongholds has become embroiled in election controversy. >> the key point here is that every vote should count. that's what it's about. that is what the north star should be. every eligible voter who voted and followed the rule should count. let me give you a very specific example that is very relevant to the reporting you just did. patrick murphy lives in palm beach county. i think he's eligible to vote. he voted absentee. he followed the rules and then he got letter saying you're signature doesn't match and now it's too late for him because he got the notice after the fact. it's too late for him to have his vote counted. that can't possibly be right. that is one of so many examples that are out there. >> whose fault is that? is that the fault of the election supervisor for how they have conducted these elections in those counties? should brenda snipes
