thanks. >> good evening, i'm not dennis kelly. i'm linda plaque, the executive vice president of the united educators of san francisco. and i just wanted to get up this evening to say hello, welcome everybody back, superintendent, commissioners, staff, ladies and gentlemen of the audience. i want to mention something about the race for top money. it's veryit is very unfortunate california did not get it. why did we tried to get it? we are desperate this is a disgrace. the educational reform we are engaged in is not the reform we should be engaged in. what the administration wants us to do is relate not sound, research-based educational policy, and it is unfortunate. in a way, i am not fat and happy we did not get it. -- not that unhappy we did not get it. let's see some research. what about school number 11? school no. 12? why are we engaged in this type of competition. this is a crazy competition we are engaged in. where is the senate seat? -- sanity? where is the justice for our kids. we can look forward to federal funding. than

[applause] >> thank you all for being here. it is a great honor and a great privilege to be able to recognize the work that all of these good people have done. some of these -- even the administrators. we have known to the since she was a tiny teacher. it is good to see her pass through and come to this point. it is a wonderful time to be able to celebrate the great work these teachers have done and these principles have done, and know it is emblematic of the work everyone else is doing. it was just 162 years ago. jim and i are the only ones in the room who remember it. [laughter] there were seven teachers, seven schools, and seven school board members in san francisco. we have come a long way. james was one of those first people. it is a name we have kept in the district ever since. thank you very much for coming. congratulations to all of you. just think how much longer this could all go on. thank you. . >> dennis kelly, the united educators of san francisco. what we are pleased that all of this is coming to closure, we also are looking to see that the proportion of the teachers -- the proportion that teachers have given back is matched by the administrative staff. i do not see that in this document. jim tells us the numbers are not accurate, it is critically important to the teachers and para-professionals to see that with the large amount that has been given back to our contracts, the $39 million over two years, that not the same dollar amount from the administrators but the same proportional sharing of the burden is there for the administrators. we would like to also see that for the non uaff administrators. congratulations to the district and the administrators on concluding their parks. thank you. president kim: are there any comments or questions? student delegate rose. >> did you say you're going to suspend all sabbaticals for next year? >> this agreement with united administrators suspense sabbaticals for the upcoming two years. th

karen tells me is just their job, but it really is denny, and karen and kelly cornell for their willingness and eagerness to help me through these questions. thank you very much. >> thank you very much. commissioner sullivan? >> i just want to highlight three things. one is, this report kind of cries out that there is a huge need for more resources in this area. i know we are totally research -- resource challenged in this department, but we need to protect the urban forestry division from cuts. then we will hopefully have more resources sunday and bulk up that area. it reminds me a little bit about, not to be dramatic, about global warming. it is a big problem, happen slowly. given the nature of the urban forests, which do not regenerate themselves, if you wait to fix it, it is too late. the other thing i wanted to talk about with something that jim mentioned at the very end, which is the variety of trees we're planting in the parks. the eastern end of golden gate park especially is full of trees that are an interesting and unique, and you don't see them anywhere else in the city. we have
