so, if we ask, for example, the homeless department, the department of homelessness to pay for the $50illion in homeless ambulance rides, we can get every little thing that is on that list on page 17 and 18 and 19 and have $10 million to spare. i think these are the types of conversations we should be having since we're in a homeless crisis in san francisco. these are the situations we should be having with the other departments in this city since we're the ones that are picking up the slack on an issue that is technically not just our issue. our mission is to respond to 9-1-1 calls and make sure that people are getting emergency care. it seems like we're giving a large part of our budget to homeless people rides to the hospital -- given they need those rides in a lot of those cases and some cases they don't need the rides. it's cold outside and they know as the ms6 will tell you and some of the other people out in the engines other tell you, they know the right buzz words. they say the right buzz words and wore going to show up and give you a ride to the hospital. that's probably a pa

my name is joe sane, and i'm the fiscal planner of the department. and this year, i'll be doing a quick presentation of the 2019 and 2020 draft budget. a couple of quick things. this is a draft budget, and as such, we expect there will a be a lot of changes between now and the time we submit the budget to the mayor's office on february 22. the second thing is we're not going to be reviewing the fiscal year 20-21 budget in this presentation. while we're mandated to submit a two-year budget, it's impossible to know what our grant situation will look like that far out at this point in time, so we don't feel like we can give you an accurate assessment of the fiscal year 20-21 at this time. so the city's currently projecting $107 million deficit for fiscal year 2020 and additional $103 million different set for 2021. as a result, the mayor is ordering all departments to cut expenditures by 2% for 2020 and 2% for 2021. the mayor's office is also requiring all general fund departments to submit a contingency reduction plan of an additional 1% in each fiscal

i think it's a big deal throughout the department and departments nation wide. that being said, i just want to make it clear that in my humble opinion, with all due respect to the chief and everybody that is working hard, this is not the response that i'm expecting. i'm going to keep asking for a state of the art peer support unit now that we're all clear on that. i appreciate all the work thaw guys are doing. but we really need a state of the art peer support unit. so i'm going to look to you, chief, and the next chief and to the extent of the chiefs here and look i said, 120 days didn't bother me because i knew it was ambitious but you have to put a date out there. that's how things get done. otherwise you don't get anything done. i mean generally, not you, chief. unless you put a deadline things don't get done. so thank you so much, chief nickolson. i'll keep asking and i'm absolutely welcome to be a part of this and help out in anyway i can. god knows i've got so much time. and this is a really important issue. so i am absolutely welcome to be a part of it.
