this charter amendment will set up a sheriff's department oversight board and a sheriff's department office of inspector general. what we don't want is to continue to let the sheriff's department conduct their own investigation. right now, we basically have a situation where the fox is guarding the hen house. we have a way to change that through this reform right now. i understand we want reforms and abolish and that may be something that we will possibly get to, but that won't be happening right now. and without this charter amendment, we will continue to give the sheriff's department 100% power to police itself. i'm not willing to do that and we need this charter amendment for that change. there is more to come. as you know, we are working hard to close down the county jail, 850 and we are working hard to close juvenile hall and there are so many major reforms that we have been continuing to push on, on this board of supervisors. but make no mistake, if we do not put this charter amendment on the ballot, the sheriff will continue to conduct their own investigation. there are things
