he has been a great resource for us given his experience about the department and the department needs. if you have questions on operations, he will chime in and he's been a great partner for easter bond project. onto the next project. the pistol range police project. it's located in east merced. it was renovated to include an open air firing range. there's currently a maintenance program in place focused on retearing the severely corroded and mitigation of noise. immediately adjacent to the open air firing range. a classroom building. the goal is to replace the open air range as required by code. the benefit to the neighborhood and the community will be mostly the mitigation of niez and enabling the police department to use the facility twenty four seven. >> it won't be moved. we're replacing onsite with a quieter facilities. >> exactly. we intend to stay in the same foot print. >> i think what is really excite sg the theme of enclosure. the community loves seeing us. they are not a big fan pf our or noise. we have to do training at night. by enclosing it's eliminating this all togeth

we've also increased our department representation to over 21 different departments. and, again, not many people -- when people use the ace program, they're encouraged to also go through the general hiring process. we've been able to successfully see people hired and those are over 30 individuals that have identified that they've used ace and have stated to us that they received permanent employment outside of the ace program. so what's next for the ace program, and what are we doing? well, we receive surveys and as we build our small program and during the pandemic we were able to outreach with the help of mdc, the mayor disability committee. we worked on getting surveys out to the community. and with those surveys we've been able now to put together the implementation that we're trying to change some of those things that include putting on more events, which we're doing now. and just to say that we have two events coming up. one of them is -- and i invite you -- all of you to attend. our smart recruiter applicant tracking system on september 29th. in addition to tha

with a new department of public safety. the floyd protests and calls continued after a jury found ex officer derek chauvin guilty and he was subsequently sentenced to 22 a half years in prison. we got justice, but not enough justice, but i will celebrate guilty conviction on the police officer that killed the black man because far too many times we see them kill us. and get right away with it. we need true justice. that's not one case. that is a social transformation. that says that nobody's beneath the law and no one is above it. let's take a look at some national numbers, according to the group, interrupting criminalization, at least 20 large u. s cities have cut their police budgets. those cuts, adding up to about $840 million total $160 million so far has been invested in communities. cops have been removed from schools in 25 cities, according to about $34 million saved. on the flip side, bloomberg reports more than 20 large cities, increased police spending in 2021. opponents of defund argue it leads to rising crime an

citizens departed afghanistan.these flights were the result of a coordinated effort by the united states, qatar and turkey. in addition to those flights, half dozen american citizens and a dozen permanent residents of the united states have also left afghanistan with an overland route, with our help. constant contact with american citizens, each has been assigned a case management team to offer specific guidance and instructions. some declined to be on the first flights. some needed more time to make arrangements, wanting to remain with extended family or had medical issues that precluded traveling last week. we will continue to help them and help an american who still wants to leave and to help afghans to whom we have a special commitment, just as we have done in other countries where we have evacuated our embassy. and where hundreds or even thousands of americans remained behind. for example, syria, yemen, somalia and venezuela. there is no deadline for this mission. third, we are focused on counter-terrorism. th
