you know, i think it's really important for our families, most of them have involvement with the department of children and families, and you know, so we stay in close contact with the department, with their worker and with their therapist and with their treatment providers and we make sure that everybody stays on the same page. and in doing that, our families have been very successful. we have 91 percent of our families stay in our program and stay engaged and they have done a wonderful job. and on top of that, we provide parenting classes and which is the biggest piece because being a mother in recovery myself, it's so hard to balance your recovery and staying sober and then you want to be the best parent you can possibly be because you're trying to make up for lost time and all of these other things. so to-the fact that our program offers parenting classes, i think it amazing and it really teaches the person in recovery how to parent their child and when to ask for help and what to do with your children while you're in recovery. and kim, talking about when to ask for help, a lot of families do not ask f

i was just talking with the director of the department of children, youth, and families, talking about doing outreach to businesses to see how we can encourage some incentives to hire young people. that is a big issue. a lot of people are coming from families where they have one or two parents who could be unemployed. often, kids need to bring in money to the family. that is some pressure. a small minority of kids get involved in thing that may bring in money that are not good for our community. not very healthy. maybe dealing drugs. it is not a big issue in my district, but it is there. there are enough opportunities for young people to engage in sports, recreation, and jobs, other activities. i am excited about the ocean view neighborhood. we have a new wreck center. the city foundation is looking at putting in some artificial turf there. i consider that a great opportunity where you can build sports programs, softball, baseball, soccer, football, getting people involved in productive things that are good for them. help them feel that they had good skills to contribute. from that sen

facebook in aol and the ryan family foundation and the department of education and j&j in the crater of the bullying movie focusing on parents to realize that this issue impacts all childrenlying.gov and what i've tried to do is focus. by talking to the parents, talking to the children. i spoke to dozens of parents but i spoke to a 15-year-old girl whose younger sister is around nine years old and she has a lot of special disabilities, and she of course gets bullied. this older sister is trying hard to pave the way for her little sister to stop being victimized. one of the things that she had done with her and her friends had 15 and had been doing this for a couple of years as they got together to do this smile and hug program. and when they see a kid that is by themselves a little rural maybe, they focus on the girl. the little girl is being shunned and being alone. they make sure that nobody feels alone and when they walk down the hall they see somebody that is sad and they give them a big smile and a hug. they are doing in their own way what we are trying to get people to do, to acknowledge and to see it, to bring some warmth and light to it. i was just so touched by t
