you know, i had the great fortune of presenting to all of the leadership of the department of corrections, all of the executive leadership, each of the past couple years. and so they heard me talk about the project. they present the project and basically they reach out to us. so we reach out to them. and then it's just a process of going through the steps where they send us particular prisoners that they choose partner with, because some prisons already have lot of programs, some don't. and we choose a part of places where this would be most beneficial and they send the layout of the housing unit or the layout of whatever where they want it to be. so it might be a a recreation room that's just adjacent the housing unit. and then once we get the layout work with our design team at mass design, a partner with us from the very beginning. and basically we we design the space will look with the library and then they approve it and then we have them built and then we deliver them and when we deliver them, i usually and usually have an event or we bring another writer in to have an event because

when someone is being put to death it is entirely within the control of the state of the department of corrections out. these executions were by lethal injection and lethal injection involves taking what injection involves taking what in a hospital setting would be an intravenous line and essentially inserting it into a vein and once you inserted into a vein you then inject the chemicals. the problem that we saw in seven different cases this year was that the executioners had trouble finding a line. it ranged in the botched executions from 25 minutes to as long as three hours. that is not the way it is supposed to be. regardless of where you _ is supposed to be. regardless of where you stand _ is supposed to be. regardless of where you stand on - of where you stand on the issue of the death penalty difficult to contemplate, isn't it, if you are the relative of someone sentenced to death, having to go through this sort of incompetence and this sort of incompetence and this sort of suffering?— of suffering? yeah, and the blotches — of suffering? yeah, and the blotches have _ of suffering? yeah, and

so the first column is the department of corrections, those are prisons. the second is juvenile facilities. the third is jails that are locally operated. and iv's private. what you can see in pink is that 43% of all suicides in louisiana jails occurred in solitary confinement. compare that to only 7% in our state prisons. of the three youth suicide that happened between 2015 and 2019 in louisiana, two out of three occurred when these youths were confined, alone, and in segregation. this finding should prompt review of staffing, discipline, security, and mental health protocols in the jails where the suicides occurred. but unfortunately, due to changes in the federal collection of data on deaths, we will no longer be able to identify patterns like these. that's because the department of justice no longer collects information on incident locations within a prison or jail. it also doesn't collect information from facilities where there were zero deaths, meaning it will be harder for facilities to learn from each other what works and what doesn't work. changes
