department of justice, health and human services, department of education, we're all coming together to figure out how to lean in together. and labor, six million unfilled jobs, more unfilled jobs than people looking for work. this opioid epidemic is not just something affecting my brother or me and our family, it affects all of us. our competitiveness, our ability to continue on this economic upswing. the government put out $2 billion, more money than has ever been dedicated to the opioid epidemic. folks say it's not enough. but i say we can't spend our way out of a problem, we need to work smarter and work harder and find ways to break down the silos and different funding streams so we can all pool our resources to work together. but i'm also focused on making sure that money gets to local communities. i used to run the state department of health in indiana. one frustration was that the money we hear about it on tv, but it never seemed like it made it down to the community level. mr. bernstein: how is that possible? dr. adams: it's hard to distribute money across the united states. so it gets allocated here, it goes to the states, then the states have to allocate it to the communities, and the communities then divey it up amongst smaller groups. one of the things we're trying to do, this administration is really trying to do, to make sure that money gets there so much more quickly. looking at new models to fund different programs so some places can apply directly instead of going through the circuitous routes to get that funding. mr. bernstein: what is some of the money going toward at the community level? what's being done? dr. adams: i'm proud to say after i put out our naloxone advisory, the first advisory in 13 years, naloxone prescribing is up over 350%. we know communities have been able to turn around the opio
