we were given a grant of $650,000 from the department of justice. this is a grant that my office applied for with the assistance of casa de las mujeras. i don't know why i keep saying that. [speaker not understood] the issue of women's shelter and other organizations. the goal of this grant is to be able to enhance our ability to deliver services, especially for the most vulnerable victims of domestic violence. as many of you know, this year -- this month we celebrate domestic violence month. and every year my office has an event that we do in order to educate service providers and the public about the things we can do in order to enhance our services. and we're so fortunate today that we're also getting this grant. the reality of domestic violence is a serious crime and don't let anybody else tell you otherwise. one in three households in the u.s. are impacted by domestic violence. around 22% of every women report having been the victim of domestic violence. if you walk into any of our prisons, you will find that the majority of the people that are
