derek valcourt has more on the call for help that has left a lot of unanswered questions tonight. derek? >> the coast guard said they think the distress call was the real deal. >> with one radio call for help, a quiet saturday morning, on middle river, took an alarming turn. >> what is your position and nature? >> i'm in middle river. i've got three kids on board. 42. i'm 45. and the boat is taking on water. >> caller said he was taking on water. and told the coast guard, from the location, he could watch the riverwatch restaurant in marina. >> the boys watched in one. i'm sitting here. i'm trying to get some on. i'm taking on water. there's something leaking in the bottom of the hull. >> reporter: soon after, radio communication went silent. >> reporter: within 10 minutes of that call, a commercial boat was in the area. they found nothing. maryland helicopters were searching the sky in minutes. and by 40 minutes, boats like this were scouring the water. >> we had a boat in the water. >> reporter: but after more than eight hours of serp -- searching, involving helicopters, boats an

good morning, derek valcourt. >> reporter: good morning, victim's advocates are holding a rally at 9:30 this morning on the steps of the state house, they'll urge the lawmakers to act swiftly today to get something done about the sex offender legislation. the murder of an 11-year-old -- >> they can spend time making sure that the cell phone legislation is through and here, we have it days and the children aren't protected and they're playing games. >> reporter: she's talking about offenses against a children and the senate's already passed a bill and the maximum punishment should be life in prison and under the house version, the sentence would be 15 years. she sponsored the bill asking for 20 years and she said they'll have to compromise. >> it's tough, i would love to see 20 with no patrol. that's not in the cards. 15 years is. >> reporter: and they worry that they won't agree to the house version of 15 years and meanwhile, they need to iron out the bills to the registry in order to qualify for certain federal funds. >> and it needs to get done, we shouldn't do it in the last hour.
