now we turn to our meteorologist derek vandam who has been tracking this storm. ou know a lot of people are in a really bad situation right now as this is happening right now. >> that's right, george. we have this ongoing situation over the vanautu islands. you can have some images coming out of this region this would be basically from the port villa region the capital. and you can just see the camera shaking back and forth, left to right. you can imagine the strong winds that are now just starting to reach the capital city battering this region. and it will only get worse from here. the rain is picking up as well. that's an angle to the story we haven't covered yet. we just haven't had enough time to cover all the different parameters with this storm. we've already blocked 230 millimeters or just shy of that over the northern parts of this island chain. and you can imagine, with more to come that's going to heed to flooding for much of this region. we have forecast rainfall totals over the next 48 hours, from port villa southward. upwards of 250 to 350 millimeter

let's go to derek vandam.re saying just a few days ago, zero tornadoes so far in tornado season. but looks like we're making up for it now. >> terrifying to see some of that footage, of course, of tornadoes barreling down on tulsa, oklahoma. tulsa was not the only location that saw what is a probable tornado. this is moore, oklahoma. i want to just show you, they've had three, that's three extremely destructive tornados in the past 15 years. and this i-35 corridor that runs north and south has all seen these long trek tornadoes cross over top. we've seen what is likely another tornado that's done damage to a very similar location where even back in may of 1999 where the most powerful tornado ever recorded with wind gusts of 318 miles per hour crossed that very path. look at the video coming out of that region. just exploding power lines. of course, we haven't confirmed this is a tornado, but it clearly is. the national weather service has to look at certain patterns in the debris field. but nonetheless, you ca

derek vandam joins us live now with details. k, we have some video that's just frightening of these tornadoes. >> you would not want to see that barreling at you anywhere. unfortunately, it was ground zero across central portions of oklahoma. look as we zoom into the region the line of thunderstorms that fired up. you can see moore, oklahoma, and tulsa, seven tornado reports. there are severe thunderstorm watch boxes in arkansas and southeast oklahoma. the severe weather threat is slowly starting to diminish. we are monitoring these storms closely, but we have had a very quiet tornadic season so far across the united states. normally, we would receive about 80 tornados through this time of the year. we've only received about seven from this latest round of storms. unfortunately, moore, oklahoma also received quite a bit of damage from this storm. if you recall, they have had three very destructive tornadoes within the past 15 years. so a bit of unfortunate luck for those guys. >> okay, derek, thank you. >>> search crews are waiti

let's go over to derek vandam, tracking it all. big storm. >> absolutely. picture this. and then the truck flips on its side. this is the scene in split, croatia, thanks to a local phenomena called the bora binds. this is what it sounds like, hurricane force winds. someone captured these amazing visuals along with the sound of the winds. a very localized wind phenomena that flips trucks over downs power lines, and downs trees and really whips up the sea, as well. that's the area we're talking about. coming back to the graphics you can see some of the recorded wind gusts. split, croatia, 155 kilometers per hour equivalent to a strong category one atlantic hurricane. that's some impressive stuff. here's the scenario and why it's happening. we often see this set up in the wintertime, across the balkan peninsula, thanks to a strong ridge of high pressure across central europe and a weaker low, moving across southern italy. this is forming north to northeast of the wind coming off of a mountain range that's right along the coast of croatia. think of this as almost a river or

derek vandam is here to give us the details.ralia and two in the area. >> this is the second time that australia has been simultaneously impacted by double cyclones. it's amazeing to see the amount of tropical activity taking place, as well as the country of australia here. so let's look at what we have taking place. i want to take note this the strongest storm. tropical cyclone pam. you can see four tropical cyclones as we speak. owen nathan pam rotateing in counterclockwise direction. this is nathan. 95-kilometer-per-hour sustained winds. it's more the rainfall potential as the storm churns around the northern parts of queensland. interesting to note the great barrier reef is just offshore. heavy rainfall can have a very negative impact on the great barrier reef. and we tropical cyclone owen. not a major populated area here but lots of rain anticipated as it heads towards perth later this weekend. this is the big one, tropical cyclone pam, and port villa has the potential to see extreme storm surge and strong winds. this is eq
