the minneapolis, in the minneapolis police department, testifying today at the trial of derek chauvin. brent williamsrom minnesota public radio. he has been covering the trial. we checked with him several times since the case unfolded. thanks for joining us tonight. nice to see you. >> good to see you again. >> so i feel like as a layman, watching this, just like a lot of people are watching this, i was surprised over the course of the week at the powerful and at times very emotional nature of the testimony. today was a shorter day of testimony. one that i didn't expect to be as affecting, but hearing from these police officers, particularly lieutenant zimmerman today, it felt like a sledgehammer for the prosecution today. i have to ask you how you saw it in context and how effective you think these witnesses have been. >> well, i'll tell you, i wasn't necessarily surprised by zimmerman's testimony. i covered lieutenant zimmerman for many years. i've interviewed him for a couple of different stories and seen him kind of how he interacts with the public and here's an example. in 2014, there was a well

derek chauvin was convicted of murdering george floyd. but after all that's happened this week, how exactly do we read that moment now? joining me now is donald williams. he was a witness to george floyd's death whose testimony was key to the conviction of derek chauvin. mr. williams, i'm so happy to have you with me this morning. let me know if you can hear me. i know we were having technical difficulties. >> yes, i do hear you. do you hear me? >> i do. i hear you, sir. i hear you, brother. so happy to have you with me. the moment in your testimony that just did it for me when they said you called this officer these names and you looked the defense lawyer in the eye and said, yes, i said it and yes, i meant it. i think it was such a moment of liberation and defiance for so many people like my sur that grew up in those communities. what was going through your mind at that moment? >> so, what was going through my mind, you know, when that was going on, just really it was just trying to stay professional, stay inside my body and make sure i did everything i could do to let the officer know that, you know, george was in tremendous pain. he was saying eve

derek tobin. >> dana: juan williams, may be another round from what you heard from mike tobin postmark >> juan:istening to what mike had to say in terms of the community in one of the realities is we are talking about store owners and the potential for disruption, but i think that you have to talk about people who feel like, you know, that was a horrific videotape! and you saw a man lose his life, and in fact what you are hearing now from people who were in the stores, people who own those stores is they wish they had acted differently and not put george floyd's life into the hands of the police, i think that you have to understand that this is all across america and is being reflected in terms of efforts to reform policing, this is a major moment that people feel especially people of color that they are not treated as citizens, but a suspects based on their skin color and want some kind of change to take place. i think that that is a deeply widespread felt grievance here of the american people that you have to of course have law enforcement, this is not about law enforcement that is good, peop
