nbc's derrick ward spoke with neighbors. >> reporter: the dispelled conspiracy about a child sex ring of a local pizza restaurant, the theory drove one man to drive to d.c. to take matters into his own hands last december. he's been arrested, convicted and jailed for shooting up the establishment at the hear of the conspiracy theory. but the heart of the conspiracy theory itself still beats. these flyers turned up somewhere between wednesday night and thursday morning on fences and doors in northwest. reaction from recipients. >> reporter: rage, anger, and disgust. >> reporter: little strips of paper can cause a big stir. craig williams got one and says his main concern is safety. >> you know, with the pizza parlor just a few blocks away, we had an incident where somebody self-investigated with an assault ri at least one neighbor called police. it's unclear what action, if any, can be taken. >> and i'm all for free speech, but i think this goes beyond free speech into issues of public safety. >> reporter: in northwest, derrick ward, news4. ♪ ♪ >>> the fourth of july celebrations have

so, derrick, tell us about the scene there and what police have told you tonight. >> reporter: well, let me tell you exactly where we are. we're in the 400 block of silver hill road in suitland. take a look. you can see there's a pop eyes at the end of the strip mall. there's a pawnshop and then a cleaners and a nail salon. police believe the shooting happened in that space between the cleaners and the pawnshop. it was about 7:30 when say they got multiple calls and reports of gunfire and a shooting. and there were officers nearby, so they got here quickly. >> they discovered two adult male victims who were both suffering from gunshot wounds. both of our officers did deploy their trauma kits, which we have in an attempt to render aid to the victims. one of the victims were prenounced dead here on-the-scene. and another victim was trance ported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. >> reporter: there was no identity yet on either of these victims. it turns out one of the victims made his way to that popeyes to try to get help. that's where police and paramedics found him. the ot

news 4 derrick ward is live there tonight. derrick, what happened there? >> reporter: well, i'll tell you what, we're at the scene of one of the more serious shooters over the weekend, double shooting here on kansas avenue left one person and another in grave condition. this violence isn't just stopping at the weekend. this includes that shooting, it happened just a few hours ago. the shooting today means there have been 11 shootings in dc since friday leaving two people dead. this shooting happened in blocks of sunday's shooting. at this point no arrests have been made in any of these shootings. he's an advisory neighborhood commission, this district covers the area of the last two shootings. >> it's one agency. we can't rely on our police department or police officers to do it all at once. there are other agencies that we put pressure on to ensure that people aren't just getting hand outs, they're hands up. >> they're asking for the public's help. there are rewards that lead to an arrest in these cases and often it's that information from the public to h

derrick ward is live on capitol hill with more of the details on this, hey, derrick. >> reporter: well the scene is cleared now. this is the intersection of second street and independence avenue. you're looking at the library of college. that building that's in the background there. if you're familiar with this area, you know there's always a capitol police officer stationed at that little triangle where you see that red barrier. that is to keep traffic flowing well. also to stop oversized vehicles that could pose a danger to the federal enclave from entering. this was tense scene earlier this morning. it all started by 11:45. we know that the driver and police officer involved were both injured, both minor injuries. the driver, though, is some serious charges, including assault with the deadly weapon, assaulting a police officer, that's felony assault. aggravated reckless driving and driving without a permit. now, 11:45 police say the black sedan you see in the video was westbound on independence avenue when it struck the barrier and the police cruiser. now, again, there were some min

. >> news 4 derrick ward is live, he's got more details on what happened there, derrick, what's the word. >> reporter: actually there were two explosions here. they call those disruptions. take a look, the scene now, the car is just on the other side of that tow truck, actually sat back up on the flat tow truck. this incident started earlier this morning, it was about 11:45. we're able to show you an elevated view from mass cam, maybe give you a better shot of the area. this is right at the intersection of second street near the thomas jefferson building. now, this car was westbound on independence avenue when it struck a barrier and u.s. capitol police cruiser. the driver of that car and an officer suffered some minor injuries. now, police immediately checked that car out as a suspicious vehicle. and what they did is they disrupted it twice. they brought the robot out and they did small controlled explosions to open up the trunk of the car. about 2:45 a bomb tech came out and look to the trunk of that car and pretty much cleared it. major traffic says they closed most of the streets in
