derrick ward shows how the suspects got in, what they wanted and got out. >> reporter: it was a typical busy sunday morning at the crystal city ports pub but the hours before were anything but typical. >> the atm was broken in to. got in the restaurant and took the money out. >> this burglary was methodical and brazen. there is no time whenouth 23rd street isn't busy even the early morning, late-night hours when the burglary is suspected to have happened. looks like they came through a grass door of the business and defeated the alarm system and motion sensors and went for the atm and cut in to the machine to get the money getting aundetected. >> they knew what they were looking for and came right at it. >> staff went about putting in a new atm and there are upgrades to the security, as well. in his 19 years here it's been nothing like this. police say it is rare for crystal city, too. >> they said there was some incidents in maryland but nothing around here. >> arlington police are still investigating this robbery. derrick ward, news 4. >>> a popular pizza place in old town alexandria

news 4's derrick ward spoke to her and other family members who honored williams today. >> crossing the stage at the ceremony at catholic university the most applause and tribute for one who wasn't there, and couldn't be there. his family was presented with his diploma. >> it hurts me because i know how much he wanted this. >> reporter: he had finished his courses at catholic university's metropolitan school last fall but in march was gunned down as he returned home to his apartment. he died a few feet from his door. >> i'm proud of my son's hard work. because he was very motivated. >> he was so dedicated. he was a very bright student. >> williams had a support system, church members, family and friends. some admired his determination. >> for all of those this should have been a happy day. >> it was a happy day but the wakt of loss was there as well. >> it is a somber moment. i'm exceptionally proud. >> his spirit lives with us. >> i really wish i could have been watching him on the stage. >> reporter: the crime is unsolved and while his classmates stood up for him his mother hopes that

news 4's derrick ward is live in the district where people are buying up their lottery tickets. a lot of people hoping they are going to get lucky there. what's the word? >> reporter: indeed they are. we are at 40th and wisconsin. this place has a reputation not necessarily for the big winning, but they do get winners from time to time. so a lot of folks have shown up. we have seen waves from people coming and going this morning. i talked to the merchants here and they said it was busier last night than it has been this morning. they are seeing a bit more traffic than they do for a saturday morning. we talked to some of the the early birds ab what they would do with the winnings and how they pick their numbers. >> i don't usually play, but i went to a chinese restaurant last night and got a fortune cookie. then i played my birthday and just totally random, never do this. but before i started my saturday chores, i thought i might as well figure out if i can do this and get somebody else to clean the house next week. >> what are you going to do if you win? >> i'm going to disappea
