he was pointing the area out around des moines.cularly important votes still coming in from there. at clive soledad o'brien, they are still counting votes. >> in the city of clive, anderson, west des moines precinct one and west des moines precinct two are here in live for space reasons. precinct one has finished their count. this is precinct number one with the red ballots. in their count mitt romney is ahead significantly, number two behind mitt romney is santorum. that is what happened with precinct number one, west des moines. over here they're still counting. they're on their second count for precinct number two, which are the white ballots. they've actually at the same time -- we turn around for one second. they're making the official, 79 votes for mitt romney. ron paul third with 42 points, gingrich is fourth, 24. >> we're still working on west des moines two. >> so you heard what christy taylor, who runs this precinct -- christy, will you give us those numbers one more time? >> sure, governor romney has 79, santorum 46, pau

des moines is the largest in the state. nbc news political director chuck todd has been looking for us tonight. overall he is the guy looking at things by the numbers. in particular he has been looking at the various areas of strength for the particular candidates tonight. chuck, what are you seeing so far? >> rachel, a few things and a few caveats about our entrance polls. one thing i want to remind people and the reason why we're characterizing it, just those three as we are with no order is that four years ago mitt romney was ahead on the first wave. mike huckabee of course ended up winning by nine points. so the most enthusiastic supporters get to these sites early and so sometimes that's where things mess around and we are confident in what the top three, which three candidates have the shot, actual shot at winning but i just wanted to get that caveat out there. if you look at this map, this was the 2008 map and it was huckabee, romney, paul. here we have two of the three folks that were one, two, three the last time,

a new "des moines register" poll is out. it shows you in second place very close to mitt romney at this point. another figure that caught our eye goes back to what so many of your colleagues on the campaign trail have been saying about you this weekend, that is, that you are unelectable. that has been quite the word when they talked about you this week. in this poll, 29% of likely iowa republican caucusgoers also found you the least electable of all the candidates. why is that? >> well, maybe it's not true. i've been pretty electable. i was elected 12 times once people got to know me in my own congressional district. i think that might be more propaganda than anything else. so we'll wait and see. we will know a lot more about how the election goes tomorrow. >> being elected among folks that know you in a small district in texas is somewhat of a less daunting task than across the country, and there is the feeling -- and i'm sure you heard your colleagues say he's not electable, he's too outside the mainstream, his views on fo
