the family of ryan bolinger is suing the city of des moines. des moines police officer vanessa miller shot and killed bolinger... who was unarmed... in june. miller claimed she feared for her life when bolinger walked up to her car following a chase.. so she shot him through the window of her squad car. a grand jury and an internal police investigation cleared miller. but the lawsuit... filed today in federal court... claims miller was negligent and didn't receive proper training. we're learning more about that outbreak of food poisoning at roosevelt high school in des moines. but we still don't know exactly how dozens of people were sickened. the polk county department of public health says 58 teachers and staff members were sickened at the school on wednesday october 21st. the next day the school was shut down because so many staff members had fallen ill. health officials say the sickness was caused by a bacteria present in meat served at a potluck at the school. however can't say whether the outbreak was caused by improper cooking or imprope

des moines police say 28-year-old lopez was shot and moines. it all happened at about 10:30 at the intersection of 13th st and jefferson ave. police say lopez had been visiting a home in the area and got into a dispute with some people. socop is charged with first degree murder. now this is the 14th homicide in des moines this year. now to saturday morning's homicide. around 1:30 police say brendan mcguinness shot 41-year-old gino risola several times with a semi-automatic gun on southeast carefree lane. saturday afternoon, good samaritans found mcguinness just hours later in east des moines. residents near 28th and capitol avenue say they found a man who had fallen on the sidewalk. in fact, one neighbor says mcguinness was barely conscious and bleeding from the head. that man called 911, not knowing the man was a murder suspect. >> more than strange. i mean here we are sitting over , here my neighbors come get me and this guy is sitting over here and he's a murder suspect. alyx: the people found mcguinness about 20 miles away from the crime sc

des moines police could be getting dozens of new tasers. tonight... the des moines city council will consider a proposal to spend 82-thousand-dollars to purchase 60- tasers from a st. louis company. officials say the warranty has run out on the department's current tasers... and replacement parts are no longer available. the council will also take up a number of issues surrounding the new iowa events center hotel. the demolition of the current skywalk at no cost to the city... and the demolition of a building in the area in about a month. a 100-million-dollar hotel is slated to go up at the corners of 5th and park streets. a non-profit has been formed by polk county to own and operate the 330- room hotel. they're in high demand...but the city says it's got limited funds to complete them. the des moines city council got an update on street scape projects at a morning workshop. the public and private funds to update landscaping, sidewalks, safety features and give the area a better overall appeal. officials say des moines currently completes one project
