the first calls he made were to richard deslaurier, head of the f.b.i.'s boston office, and colonel timothy alben of the state police. the f.b.i. took the lead and the marathon became a sprint. >> davis: very quickly, we established a command post at the westin hotel in the ballroom. and that expanded from about a dozen people when i first walked in the door to 100 people in the first hour. >> pelley: they found bomb parts right away. evidence cascaded in. >> davis: it's a logistical nightmare. we found very quickly that we needed a place to process this evidence, so a warehouse was obtained. very quickly, computers were brought in from the f.b.i. and the state police and the boston police and set up to review video. >> pelley: among the thousands of faces, they wanted to isolate people who didn't seem surprised. >> davis: and particularly one of the f.b.i. agents who's a technical expert did a tremendous job and really was the person that was able to get to the bottom of this very quickly. >> pelley: look at these people running in terror, but look deepe

and special agent in charge, deslauriers said repeatedly, somebody knows these individuals, family, friends, acquaintances, workers, colleagues. and the bureau's strategy at that point yesterday afternoon was to bring all of us into this process. to have them help law enforcement with visual identification. and based on what we know so far, and man this is one incomplete picture, but based on what we know so far, either their faces in the media triggered them to move and begin this next rampage. or there were other who is contributed information to law enforcement and allowed them to help to move it in the right direction. as pete has reported, there was no reason to believe fbi and law enforcement were moving in on these individuals it sounds like they decided to move on their own. so it had, it had an effect in accelerating the process. tragically, we've seen one other person killed. but there's no doubt now, alex, that these individuals were planning to do additional attacks. just by the virtue of what they have on them, and what they were planting in terms of bombs. >> roger, you know w

fbi special agent richard deslauriers asked for the public's help to identify the suspects. >> after a detailed analysis of photo video and other evidence, we are releasing photos of these two suspects, identified as suspect one and suspect two. they appeared to be associated. suspect one is wearing a dark hat. suspect two is wearing a white hat. suspect two set down a backpack at the site of the second explosion just in front of the forum restaurant. we strongly encourage those who were at the forum restaurant who have not contacted us yet to do so. as you can see from one of the-- from one of the images suspects one and two appear to be walking together through the marathon crowd in on boylston street in the direction of the finish line. that image was captured as they walked on boylston in the vicinity of the intersection with gloucester street. as you can see the quality of the photos is quite good, but we will continue to work on developing additional images to improve their identification value. >> rose: joining me now is john miller. he is senior correspondent for cbs news and

special agent rick deslauriers will speak shortly. two and only two explosionive devices were found yesterday. all other parcels in the area of the blast have been examined but they are -- there are no unexploded bombs. there were no unexploded explosive devices found. over 150 people were injured. yesterday, in the blasts. some gravely. our thoughts go out to all of those injured and killed and to their families and friends. i personally want to thank the extraordinary work -- first responders for their just extraordinary work yesterday. every single one of them, those who were onsite and those who got to the site promptly thereafter, performs beautifully as have the area hospitals. i've been calling around to the heads of the hospitals personally to thank them as well. it's our hope that tomorrow we will organize an interfaith prayer service to help our community heal. we don't have details on that yet but we will provide those details when we have them. there is a support center that was opened yesterday in what we call the castle,

i am rick deslauriers.und the clock and are fully investigating the matter to bring those responsible to justice. our law enforcement team has pursued thousands of leads and tips. as i said two days ago, we are working methodically and with a sense of urgency to identify those responsible. within the last day or so to that careful process, we developed a single person of interest. not knowing that the individual was acting alone or in concert with others, we have worked with extreme purpose to make that determination. the entire force of the federal government, the fbi in boston, as well as our partners in the boston police, atf, massachusetts state police at more than 30 agencies of the boston joint terrorism force, have set about to ensure that all responsible for the bombings will be rocked to justice. it was done to ensure the safety of the city of boston, the commonwealth of massachusetts and the country. the fbi developed a second suspect in that process. we are enlisting the public's help to identify
