i think he's doing it to try to help detroit. >>host: a lot of the mobility technology developed now has not seen a return. is that correct? >> right. we are in the boom phase so money pours into all kinds of startups and ventures and silicon valley is full of all kinds of mobility startups. and at some point investors will start asking difficult questions if companies are making money and as we have seen previous iterations to some kind of a bubble bursting. and many of the companies that we profile in this book are likely to fail because that's what happens when booms and. because then the survivors will pick up the brainpower, the code the patents and go with it. >> what's going on in china right now with the mobility technology? >> china is all over the technology. massive government-funded investments which is at the heart of these mobility technologies. and want to become leaders of robotic cars. they are big on airships. they wanted all to be the leader of the technology and also to improve life in chinese cities that is l

there became a groundswell, especially in detroit, to get these people out. they started pressuring local congressmen. there is one u.s. senator, hiram johnson, from california, who introduced a resolution to bring the troops home. it failed by one vote in the senate. that was the vote of the vice president of the united states. and that was early on. i think that was in january of 1919. but there was a groundswell here that i think had some effect. i think what happened with wilson was he finally got hip to the idea that his troops were being misused. the british basically grabbed them out from under the nose of their commander, george stewart, and use them as they would. george stewart felt like he was caught in a bind. he was told the british were running the show and he had to do what they said. it should have turned out that they stayed in arkhangelsk and guarded stores, but it turned out they were used for offensive purposes right away. lora: the gentleman on our left. >> thank you. i am still trying to understand what the official mission was. you had

it any manufacturing hub and automobile shifted from indianapolis and cleveland, you name it, to detroite first event of any kind, any kind of sporting or competitive event, was a balloon race. it took place in june 1909. they launched out of the infield, actually just a few feet from where we are now, and one of the balloons actually made it all of the way to tennessee and was the winner. the second was in early august 1909, and that was a motorcycle race. raceu had a two-wheeler before you have the race cars. they had a hard time with the original road surface, which was tar and crushed rock, and that did not suit motorcycles at all, and, unfortunately, that was cut short because of some accidents, and the following week, that was the first time there was automobiles racing here, and that was a little more successful. the track started to break up, however, by the third day of racing, and then, you know, that was canceled, as well, and that is when the bricks were laid down, in the fall of 1909. ♪ the car we are standing next to write now is the marmon wasp, nicknamed the wasp because
