kpix 5's devin fehely shows us the mess left behind in the south bay. >> reporter: the highway patrol says the driver of this roadside assistance truck would need assistance himself this morning. he was helping change a flat tire when his pickup was rear ended by this car. thankfully, no one was hurt. wet weather and sloppy streets caused crashes in the early morning hours. >> i thought i wouldn't be able to walk this morning but the sun is out and i'm ready to go for a little walk. >> reporter: by dawn, however, showers had largely given way to sunshine in most parts of the south bay. >> i was actually expecting more. earlier in the week they were talking about an inch and a half of rain. ended up with about three quarters of an inch. we'll take what we can get, but i was kind of hoping for more. >> reporter: that's because despite april showers, it's been a dryer than average winter overall. the reservoir at the base of the santa cruz mountains was nearly full but not overflowing. collectively the santa clara valley water district says its reservoir, a major source of drinking water

the south bay mom has been running endurance races with her triplets intel, devin fehely caught up with her at the finish line of today's silicon valley half marathon. >> reporter: as the mother of triplets, no one would blame her if she barely hit -- had energy to walk to the mailbox, let alone finish a marathon and record time. >> when i had them, i was exhausted, they were born early. i had trouble recovering, carrying three babies is no joke. you are in a lot of pain for many weeks after. >> reporter: when she got back on her feet she set goals, she wanted to complete a half marathon with her daughter and sons. something she says is as much for them as for her. >> they spent almost a month in the hospital after they were born, they were born premature. that is typical for triplets. they couldn't eat on their own, they had trouble breathing. >> reporter: the race is also a fundraiser, a way for her to get back to the men and women who helped them in their first weeks of life. >> i think what is healthiest for moms and kids is to get out there, show the kids you have fun with them, be
