my dad had gotten the best education you could have about diabetes. his father had died of diabetes sepsis in the hospital because he couldn't walk anymore which is exactly how much my father wound up dying in the end. when i was in high school, the neuropathy started very badly for him. he was basically handicapped. he couldn't drive anymore which meant he couldn't work anymore. so he went bankrupt. that caused a real problem for the family. and his health took a letdown. when i was in college he went blind from a lot of the vascular problems diabetic had. he regained it through surgery but it was a loss of contact with the outside world. he was a brilliant man but couldn't do much for the family at that point. it just kept happening. when i was about to get married he had quadruple bypass surgery. his sydneys started failing. it was one complication aft next. last year about this time he had his leg amputated and did not get enough blood and passed away as a result of that. but this is from the standpoint of somebody who did manage his own care for
