diana alvear joins us from woodward. good morning to you, diana. >> reporter: rob, good morning, the strongest tornado was reported in kansas. the second strongest was what did the damage around me. it leveled the carpet store and tossed trucks like toys. and worse, killed five people. it was as bad as forecasters had feared. by the time the storms had passed, more than 130 tornadoes had ravaged kansas, northwest oklahoma, nebraska, and iowa. neighbors came back to their homes to clean up while crews searched for survivors. in one of the hardest hit areas, wood ward, oklahoma, many were caught offguard when warning sires failed to sound. after lightning disabled the system. the tornado left a tragic legacy. five dead, including a father and his two daughters. dozens of buildings were leveled. one office was completely destroyed. the one directly next to it still has picture frames hanging on the wall and a mug still sitting on its owner's desk. trucks carrying food, water, cots, and other supplies headed to the area. whe

abc's diana perez joins us.lue, handed a pink slip for trying to grow her family even though she says her bosses knew about the fertility treatment and had even given her her blessing. emily and brian herx's quest to become parents conflicted so deeply with catholic church doctrine it left her jobless. herx, a teacher at st. vincent depaul catholic school in fort wayne, indiana, was fired last june after the diocese discovered she was undergoing fertility treatments. but she says her attempts to start a family started in 2008 and her boss knew. still she claims a pastor at the school called her a grave, immoral sinner. during a cnn interview, herx explained how the decision changed her life. >> it's just been a very hard thing to come to grips to, because i do love my job so much. and i did love teaching so much to have that stripped away from me. but the outpour of support has been wonderful. >> reporter: herx who has a 7-year-old says she now needs ivf because she suffers from a diagnosed medical condition whi
