. >> good evening, i'm diane dwyer. emotions ran high in san bruno on the second anniversary of the explosion there. eight people died, others were injured. there was a memorial at a neighborhood park. but some who survived the inferno boycotted the event. more on the latest of the controversy. >> reporter: well, diane, the city wanted the ceremony to be held at city park because it has a sculpture specifically for that purpose. well, a number of neighbors wanted it to be held here at the site of the explosion. what is clear is, two years later, this community has a lot more healing ahead of it. >> in memory of lavonbullis. >> reporter: the dead were honored with a moment of silence and a plaque at san bruno city park. survivors of the explosion who lost loved ones sat in the front row. >> people need this memorial and the remembering of it today. and it is something we need to do for ourselves also. >> reporter: the mayor says the sculpture was meant for occasions such as this, but a number of neighbors chose not to at

i'm diane dwyer. police shut down a major intersection for hours whale they investigated a crash that killed a woman. she was working on the sidewalk at the time them crash happened near north first street and park side drive near 680 in walnut creek. another woman and the driver were rushed to the hospital. kimberly tere is at the scene with the latest for us. >> reporter: the fact that it happened at 6:30 this evening, witnesses tell us they saw a group of people who appeared to be a family. they were walking on north main street at park side near the marriott hotel when they say a speeding pickup truck ran in to them. walnut creek police will confirm one woman has died and another adult female take on the the hospital in grave condition. the driver of the pickup truck, they say, had to be extricated from his vehicle which was wedged against a retaining wall. he was taken to the hospital and later arrested for vehicle manslaughter. >> the young girl was lying down. she was all bloody. >> reporter: t

i'm diane dwyer. federal agents are stepping into investigate a fire in vallejo that they say could be a case of domestic terrorism. the fire burned the law offices of the mayor of vallejo, and a investigators are trying to figure out who might want to target the mayor and why. nbc bay area's monte francis has the latest on the investigation for us from vallejo. monte? >> reporter: well, diane, good evening. you can see behind me that the building has been all boarded up. the building is considered a total loss, although some of the contents were salvaged. agents from the fbi and the atf are expected to join this investigation some time tomorrow. when vallejo mayor osby davis saw the magnitude of the damage to the law office he shares with michael thompson, the mayor couldn't help but shed a few tears. davis later told the vallejo times herald to say he is upset would be an understatement. the fire was reported at about 1:30 saturday morning at the small office building on tuolumne street across from

i'm diane dwyer. thanks for joining us for this special edition of nbc bay area news.nd we begin with the heartbreaking development tonight for the family of 20-year-old brett olson from the east bay. fishermen found olson's body in the sacramento river this morning not far from where he was last seen near chico a week ago. family and friends of olson searched tirelessly for him this past week. they handed out flyers throughout the chico area and started a social media campaign in hopes of bringing him home alive. olson grew up in lafayette and was going to college at cal poly in san luis obispo. a twitter feed called remember scott olson is currently filled with memories. cal poly president jeffrey armstrong is reaching out to olson's family tonight saying, "it's painful for all of us at cal poly to lose someone whose life was filled with so many dreams and hopes. our deepest sympathies are with the olson family as they move through this difficult time. and a memorial vigil for brett olson is planned for tuesday night at akalanis high school in lafayette. >>> we do ha
