sources on the hill, it sounds like there's some room for compromise around what john cornin and diane feinsteinbeen working on, limiting the people on the no-fly list from being able to buy guns. the numbers have moved significantly in the wake of orlando, and it does cut with the republican voters who are important for the nra, because they care so much about terrorism and are worried about those threats. this is something that uniquely cuts both ways. >> let's talk about who is on the lists. there's 800,000 or so on the terror watch list and about 64,000 who are on the no-fly list. the fbi says only 2% of those are american citizens or permanent residents. this is a small number of people. though it might seem like there's so many who are going to get their gun rights taken away from them. it's frankly, just a fraction of the population. so when you wade into this, you have strong emotions on both sides, but it does seem to be obscured a little bit more on the right as to who actually this would affect. >> that's a good point. practically speaking, it's not impacting that mean people. but if

diane feinstein has modified her proposal to address many of the republican concerns.ed states senate, no debate, in the wake of the worst mass shooting in american history, until this filibuster began. that was deeply offensive to many of us, in the sense that we forced that debate. i think that's progress. not enough, but progress. >> how do you deal with the fact that even the proposals that are in right now in the air any way, would not address the orlando murderer? this was not a man on the watch list or a no-fly list. what does that mean to you that even the best case scenarios don't stop what happened here? >> well, first of all, i don't think you can get caught in that trap. that you are forced to design a piece of legislation that would have definitively stopped the latest mass tragedy. the fact of the matter is that background checks wouldn't have stopped the murders in sandy hook, but the families there are fighting hard for it, because they know that it would stop thousands of people from getting illegal guns in the streets of our country. i would say there

>> it is actually very little difference from diane feinstein's bill that was voted down on monday.and those legally here, like green card holders, that would have affect only 5,000 people in the country. susan collins would affect only 2,700 people in the country. you can see it is very little difference. it is the no-fly list on susan's, plus the selectee list, and that's 2,700. >> okay, so the fact that diane feinstein's didn't work, you believe this stands a chance because it is a more narrow scope and the nra won't hold sway with some of your colleagues? >> it is the fact that we've got bipartisan support. there are improvements in susan's bill as to the appeals process if you mistakenly get on, for example, the selectee list. it makes it easier to get off. that's an improvement. both those bills by the way included my bill, because neither one of them would have caught mateen. mine says if you had been on the watch list in the past, asthma te -- as mateen had, the fbi is pinged with a notice. >> given how much power you do believe the nra holds in the halls of congress there,

former san francisco mayor diane 9 feinstein was the first mayor to visit seoul in 1983 and most recented to engage in a staff exchange program which strentened understanding appreciation and friendship. this year we celebrate the 4th anniversary of the relationship between the two cities. this is where a video is supposed to play. it will happen. there we go. >> i'm honored to celebrate san francisco [inaudible] 4th anniversary. becoming involved is meaningful to me as it has gibbon me the opportunity to strengthen relations between the place i grew up and the place i now call home in san francisco. >> i was born full korean but raised in the united statess [inaudible] after my time in seoul i came to live in san francisco california.
