diane gallagher, thank you. perspective from dr.jessica burgess, one of the care surgeons who treated the incoming wounded. dr. burgess, thank you for joining. the patients who came to your hospital after the shooting, how are they doing? >> i can report out of the three patients here in the hospital, one was being discharged today and two remain in critical condition. >> that is a piece of good news being discharged. how much do they remember about what happened to them? have you had to tell them more details? >> i cannot go into a lot of details, but they are aware of what has happened and they know what they have been through. >> can you walk us through what was going through your mind when the patient's for started arriving and you saw the full extent of what happened to them? >> sure. i was on a call, and my partner let us know we had a mass casualty incident with multiple occasions. at the time, we didn't know how many. we drove for this on a regular basis and we have casualties frequently. this is something we were prepared f

. >> now to cnn's diane gallagher live for us in chesapeake, virginia. hello to you, diane.hat more are you learning about the shooting? >> reporter: so, look. investigators arriving on scene again here this morning. we saw lots of federal and state authorities back at the scene to work through evidence and try to determine a motive. we heard from survivors there. we spoke with many employees, survivors, aside from trying to get through the shock. they also don't quite understand, why, don, their former colleague, their colleague did this. they say that they had a lot of feelings about him, maybe didn't get along with him, but they never expected something like this. i want to go through quickly the names of the victims, low ren zoe gamble, kelly pile, tanika johnson, brian pendleton and randall ble vines. and a 16-year-old that they're not releasing his name. >> can you talk about the shooter how he displayed this odd behavior? >> reporter: so that's something pretty consistent with all of the survivors and the employees and former employees we've spoken with. they said the

cnn's diane gallagher is in atlanta. >> reporter: well, the record breaking voting in georgia is cominga close. at least 2.had million ballots have been passed. there are still mail-in ballots not yet to be returned. these numbers are going to continue to grow but what is undeniable is the enthusiasm here in this southern state, as the entire nation watches what could be control of the u.s. senate. that senate race between democratic incumbent senator raphael warnock and his opponent republican herschel walker is in a statistical tie as both candidates crisscross the state in bus tours, making their final pitches to voters. there's also the much-watched gubernatorial race. it's a matchup, a rematch, from 2018, between democrat stacey abrams and republican incumbent governor brian kemp. now, voters we spoke to tohere this particular polling place said they were very concerned about abortion rights, they were concerned about climate change. but we talked to other voters across the state more in step with polling who discussed the economy and crime as some of their top issues that they car

diane gal gallagher, cnn. >>> let's bring in ceo of sentinel security. chuck, in your experience with the secret service, which has a very robust threat assessment section, it is a primary pillar of all the work the secret service does. i'm wondering, when you look at the case of the walmart shooter, could any of the red flags mentioned by walmart employees stopped this shooting before it happened? >> yeah, they possibly could have. i'm going to go into that in a little greater detail. with walmart we're seeing it tied to a workplace violence incident, but overall, we're seeing the motivations in each and every one of these situations is very specific to the attacker. and it's typically associated with some type of perceived wrong thaw and i and the rest of the country may not see as rational or understandable. so, it gets very tough to get very down into the weeds to understand what the specific motivations are and why those wrongs are being perceived to the point by the attacker of carrying out violent actions. what we're seeing overall is a breakdown

cnn's diane gallagher has been on the story in chesapeake. one walmart employee described the moments she was face to face with the shooter. what did she say? >> reporter: hey, you know, alex, listening to these survivors recount the harrowing, terrifying minutes that they were, you know, basically brought to face to face with a man that they knew quite well because he was their overnight supervisor, but police say that he was armed with a handgun and several magazines, and when he game into this walmart on tuesday night, just an hour before it closed, began shooting and killed his coworkers. take a listen. >> the other team lead was in the doorway, and at first it didn't even look real. it didn't register as real. the only thing that made it real was the vibrations hitting your chest, and the ringing from the gun going off. >> reporter: now i do want to acknowledge the six who were killed there. brian pendleton, kelly pyle, lorenzo gamble, randy blevins, ta tamika evans, and that 16-year-old who they're withholding because of his age there.

. >> diane gallagher joins us from the scene.her survivors and employees about a possible motive the shooter might have had. what do they tell you? >> john, they seem just does perplexed and stressed up by what this man has done like everyone else. i spoke with survivors, some of the employees, who said that the gunmen just came in and started shooting. he had a blank look on his face and did not say anything at all. almost everyone we spoke with who worked at the warmer and had dealings with the shooter said that he had exhibited out or even threatening behavior in the past, noting, according to one woman, had been mean and condescending to the employees there. walmart has said that he was on a salary manager, but that he was and over 19 supervisor. we talk to these employees who felt that he relished in the power over them when he worked here. none of them expected what happened, not even 24 hours ago here at this walmart, did it have been. they said that he seemed strange and stent office, but they never thought that he would

. >> cnn's diane gallagher is in virginia. what is the latest there? >> reporter: well, yeah, you can probably see up hire behind me, we still have a lot of first responders on the scene. i just saw a bunch of agents in the fbi jackets walking toward this walmart as they continue to process the scene for evidence. the city of chesapeake confirming what cnn's sources have been telling us that the gunman was identified as 31-year-old andre bing. walmart telling cnn that he was an overnight team leader, a manager who had been with the company since 2010. according to the city here, they say that he came in and began shooting, he used a handgun and had multiple magazines on him, talking to survivors who one of them, brianna tyler, telling "good morning america" about those just chaotic and terrifying moments when he walked into the break room. >> yeah, he just -- literally started shooting throughout the entire break room. and i watched multiple people just drop down to the floor, whether they were trying to duck for cover or were hit. he just opened fire.

diane gallagher joins us live now from rome, georgia where walker is holding a campaign rally. very energetic rally there. the early voting numbers they're breaking records. what's the latest? >> reporter: yeah, alex. so herschel walker is being called onto the stage behind me. so it's loud in here. i hope you can hear me. according to the secretary of state's office they don't think we're going to surpass those record breaking numbers from monday today but looking at robust turnout. on monday more than 303,000 voters cast their ballots on that first day of mandatory statewide early voting here in georgia for the runoff election. they're looking at these numbers in part alex of course because look this is a condensed, brief ku abbreviated five day mandatory period so people are trying to get their voting in while they can. we're seeing long lines. but election officials hope it's a sign there's still serious enthusiasm in an election fatigued state. take a listen. >> we're the only game in town, every political dollar in america is coming here right now, both on the left and the

diane gallagher joins us from atlanta where david matthews is performing i think right now in supportnock. what more can you tell us about the former president and the current president kind of staying out of this race? >> reporter: yeah, i'm going to speak as loudly as i can without disturbing the fans who are here during this show right now. so former president trump not coming to georgia according to a person close to senate candidate herschel walker. this is something that look, there have been sort of a will he or won't he in the weeks leading up to this runoff election. he did not come before the election itself and the candidate, walker, has never put any daylight really between him and the former president. he talks about him on campaign stumps. he mentioned him during the day calling him a friend, but there are republicans here in georgia who are likely breathing a sigh of relief. they still tend to blame donald trump for their double losses in the january 2021 runoff elections here in a state that saw rafael warnock get placed in the senate. get elected into the senate back

. >> all right diane gallagher, thank you very much will let you get back to the concert, we do appreciatefurther. with me now chief political correspondent state of the union anchor dana bash, along with the correspondent for the atlanta journal-constitution. so dana, what do you make of this political calculation to keep former president trump out of georgia in the final days? >> i was talking to senior republican strategists who is involved in this georgia runoff who said point blank, there is one reason and it is because donald trump is incredibly unpopular in the state of georgia, even among many republicans. the strategists reminded me of the spread in the republican primary for governor. governor kemp who now famously broke with and sort of pushed back on donald trump's attempts to get him to overturn the election in 2020, donald trump supported and endorsed david perdue to go up against camp. purdue lost by more than 50 percentage points. that was a complete repudiation of not just purdue , but most importantly of donald trump. it he didn't go into georgia in the general election a

georgia one of the most closely watched senate races cnn national correspondent dianne gallagher is in atlanta. diane, tight race there. we've seen them before in georgia for those senate seats. where do things stand this morning? >> reporter: and we're seeing them sort of get their message out today, especially because it is the last day of early voting in the state of georgia. they have seen record-breaking numbers in this state for those who are coming out and either voting early in-person like the people you see lining up behind me here or voting by mail absentee. according to gabriel sterling with the secretary of state's office 2 million 261,000 just over that have already cast ballots in the state of georgia and typically in early voting the last day of early voting tends to be a very robust day with lots of people turning out. the candidates out on the road doing those bus tours essentially both walker and -- both walker and kemp off the trail briefly yesterday as they attended the private funeral of former georgia national championship winning coach vince dually, but have since tried to make

dianne gallagher is live in atlanta. diane, when this would decide control of the senate, we would see millions and millions of dollars thrown there. a lot of attention. it no longer decides that. but it is still important. are we seeing a similar focus from both parties on this race? >> reporter: jim, part of it is now adding into these campaigns. this education efforts they're going to have to make to make sure that voters remain excited when they don't think that the control of the senate comes down to georgia once again. senator rafael warnock having to go out there and make sure that voters don't rest easy and say democrats have it in the bag. tell them and explain to voter s why this remain so crucial for that party. on the other hand, republicans attempting to still maintain some kind of clout there in the senate, that is why we've seen so many of these surrogates already here in georgia with republican herschel walker, ted cruz, and senator rick scott is here today in the augusta area. but one of the big questions, jim

dianne gallagher it live in chesapeake, virginia. and diane, most importantly, we are learning more about the lives that were taken about the victims. how are they being remembered? >> you know, erica, there is a small vigil that has popped up here at the scene. it is still roped off as you could see behind me with crime scene tape as investigators are back out here looking for evidence trying to determine that motive. but people wanted to honor those in their community who they lost, those six people, those names that just read off there, they range in age from 16 to 70 years old. and every single one ever them were employed here at walmart. they were simply at work that night, just about an hour before the store closed and what is a very busy season for stores like walmart heading into today, thanksgiving. we're told that they were most of them in a team meeting right before the shift was to begin. we spoke with some of the former employees, people who worked with them, talking about brian pendleton for example who worked on maintenance and

dianne gallagher has been following all of this from chesapeake, virginia. diane, the stories are harrowing. some people live and some die. it seems random in retrospect. what more are we learning? >> reporter: you know, jim, you could probably see behind me but the parking lot filling up with federal and state agents continuing to investigate why this 31-year-old manager who worked with walmart from 2010 killed his colleagues. he talked to survivors and former employees, they told us that andre bing, the shooter, that he had exhibited some odd, spl threatening behavior in the past. he seemed to relish in having power over others. they called him stand-offish but never imagined it would end like this. they thought he was difficult to work with. talking to the survivors who were in the break room, the stories that they told are just absolutely harrowing. now according to the city,p they got the call at 10:12 p.m. within two minutes they were here on scene and less than five minutes later at 10:16 they were in the building and that is where they found three bodies i
