diane macedo has more. hi diane. >> hi patti ann. the lobbying group says revealed 201 irs employees currently work full-time on union activities. according to the office of personnel management the practice is part of the federal government's carefully crafted collective system. they explain in the report official time spent by federal employees performing representationnal work for a bargaining unit in lieu of their regularly assigned work. this allows unions to satisfy their duty of fair representation to members and nonmembers alike. official time is only supposed to be used for business tied directly to the representation of bargaining unit employees in matters concerning federal employment commission. they cannot use the time for conventions for example but critics say they shouldn't be using time to pay for used by taxpayers to do any union business at all. alg says the irs gave the employees job titles that makes it appear they are focused on agency rather than union business like internal revenue agent, revenue officer and t

diane macedo has more. >> apple piers to be facing an uphill battle as it repairs to go to trial againsthe department in a price fixing scandal. apple group simon and shoeser fiset and mcmillan worked together to raise prices set byam zon which at the time sold 90 percent of all e books and kept prices low it in order to promote kindle sales. as the justice department is going against apple, apple says that the court filing in may that the publishers on their own received an agency biusiness model where they would set the price and retarryls would get a commission for each sale. they also discussed raising wholesale prices for e books. the publisher settled agreeing to stop preventing discounts and paying $164 million to benefit consumers. apple refused to settle with the judge presiding over the case indicating the pretrial hearing believes they have enough evidence to prove the case here. he is only seeking in order to block apple from tsimilar condut in the future. the company could face damages in the separate trial against state attorney general and consumers for shooting class acti

diane macedo has more for us. >> good morning ainsley.r more than a decade taxpayers have been shelling out millions to pay off federal worker student debt to help government recruiting. the most recent data shows they spent $72 million to pay down student loans. with so many other government programs getting dialled back and considering raising the rates many think this one program should be next in line especially for prestigious positions like professional staffers that have no shortage of applicants. since they started being included in the program in 2003 the office of personnel management records show it has grown from a $3 million program to $85 million program at the peak in 2010. congress makes up 20 percent of the expenditure. spokesman for harry reid says the program is needed to help attract talented people to careers and public service since they can find higher salaries in a private sector. congress will be better off eliminating the program adding quote student loan assess tans programs are a circular subsidy that offsets t

diane macedo has more for us. >> a new report from ranking member jeff sessions' office. they will spend 82 million on food stamps this year alone. according to the data compiled from the agriculture department a record 20 million plus with nearly 48 million people. the crows comes amid an aggressive campaign from the obama administration to increase those roles. spending on food stamp marketing has increased 6 fold since 2000 they provide bonuses totalling 50 million per year to states that meet high enrollment targets. the cost of the program has also sky rocketed since doubling since 2008. the trend is expected to continue that is compared to the $149 billion expected to go to job training for veterans. this could change they cut the farm bill by 400 million a year and the house is expected to take up this farm bill. maybe they will have a steadier path. >>> still ahead they thought they had a great touch so did this whale. we will have a story behind the video next. >> for those who don't know what to get dad we have great ideas including a robot that cleans the grill

fox business network diane macedo has more.of us on the private sector don't get bonuses but government employees do. >> the irs is set to pay 70 million in bonuses despite being directed by the obama administration to skip these extra payments in light of the sec ster. this is according to grassly's offices the bonuses are due on wednesday and should be canceled under the white house directive. while the irs says it's still negotiating with the national treasury's employee's union they don't dispute the bonuses are eminent. michelle eldredge said office of manage am and budget directs that agency should not pay discretionary monetary awards at this time unless legally acquired but she wouldn't specify it they were contractually committed to giving these. grassley did comment on that saying quote while the irs may claim the bonuses are legally required under the original bargaining unit agreement that claim would be allegedly inaccurate. the original agreement allows for reappropriation of funding in the event of a budgetary sh
