abc's diane macedo with the details just coming in. >> reporter: tonight a suspect is under arrest in a brutal triple homicide that's haunted a kentucky community for years. >> today we can announce an indictment of christian richard martin. for three counts of murder. >> reporter: martin, a pilot for psa airlines, a subsidiary of american airlines, was arrested this morning at the louisville airport, booked in his uniform for the murders of his former neighbors. in november, 2015, investigators discovered the body of pamela phillips and her neighbor, ed desenereau in this corn field in a car. >> the vehicle was so badly burned that it was difficult for us to identify specifics as far as numbers. >> reporter: that car led them to the phillips' home a few miles away. inside, calvin phillips was shot dead. the attorney general is now crediting the son of two of the victims, matt phillips, for keeping the case alive. >> he was worried that the case was stalled and was worried that justice would not come. >> reporter: martin, a former army major, was court marshalled in connection with al

diane macedo, abc news, bristol, connecticut. >>> now to the couple who lost custody of their toddlerr his cancer treatment. 3-year-old noah mcadams was diagnosed with leukemia in early april. after chemotherapy, noah's parents believed the cancer was gone, and they say they left florida to get a second opinion. police then put out an alert to find noah saying his parents refused to follow up on life-saving medical care. they tracked his parents down in kentucky. >> this is not about whether we're choosing alternative therapies, natural therapies. this is about our rights as parents to seek other options. >> reporter: the couple's lawyer says a blood test showed no trace of leukemia, but a cancer specialist who is not treating noah says blood tests don't show the full picture. >> we have no way of saying that he is cured of leukemia this early in therapy. we cannot assume cure because we see remission. >> noah is still not getting treatment while in the custody of his grandparents. a judge is expected to rule this week whether the parents were within their rights to decline chemothera

here's diane macedo. >> reporter: new warnings tonight about dangerous rip currents at beaches along parts of the east coast and the south. at least eight people killed in north carolina alone in the past few weeks. including one today. >> we just have a lot of rip currents in the area, people need to be advised. >> reporter: a 68-year-old man, pulled from the ocean in the outer banks on saturday. just days earlier, 48-year-old robbie patterson got swept up at emerald isle. his son saying a rip current took their whole group by surprise. >> it just happened real quick, you know. >> reporter: surfers eventually pulled patterson from the water, but he died two days later. >> there was only a yellow flag out that day, but it can change in an instant. >> reporter: a string of similar incidents claiming the lives of several people recently, including 5-year-old liam peoples, who was only in the water up to his knees. >> a rip current is an outward flow of water from the beach out to sea. if you get caught, it pulls you out. you feel yourself getting pulled out, then you fatigue and panic.

here is abc's diane macedo. >> reporter: tonight, investigators are searching for the cause of a deadlylosion that ripped this indiana house right down to the foundation. >> we've received several calls saying there was an explosion in the area. >> reporter: the jeffersonville fire department says it happened around 5:00 this morning. >> we're now being advised there is one unaccounted for. >> reporter: one man was killed, two women injured, including one rescued from this home next door. before and after images show the extent of the damage. notice the house in the center of the photo. here it is after the blast, virtually gone. but the explosion also damaged at least a dozen more homes, covering the whole neighborhood in debris. >> the whole house just shook. i mean it shook, raised up and it rattled the windows and knocked the gutters off the back my house. >> reporter: now residents are finding belongings of those affected, blocks away, and posting on twitter in hopes of returning them. local residents say the man who died was known to mow neighbors' lawns and take people to the doc

abc's diane macedo with how it all ended. >> reporter: it's a scene, worthy of a double take. florida troopers pointed at their own cruiser, but the man inside is no cop. police say the incident started thursday afternoon when highway patrol tried to help 22-year-old jame jensen, found walking along the florida turnpike shirtless and barefoot. after about 20 minutes, the suspect jumps into the patrol car. >> what are you doing? hey. where are you going? hey. >> reporter: then as traffic forces him to stop, the officers approach, guns drawn, but as they try to open the car door, he takes off again, speeding down the shoulder until he's blocked by police cruisers. still, he refuses to stop, instead turning around, crossing the divider and driving off in the opposite direction. he speeds past car after car, allegedly hitting 140 miles per hour before swerving to avoid police stop sticks. he seems to lose control, driving onto the grass and slamming into the guardrail, but this chase still isn't over. the suspect runs out of the car, over the guardrail, across the highway and disa

here's diane macedo. >> reporter: tonight we're learning more about the pilot charged with killing his former neighbors in 2015. christian martin, who flew for a subsidiary of american airlines, arrested in his uniform at louisville airport saturday just before a flight. police found pamela phillips and edward dansereau's bodies in a burned-out car in this cornfield. later discovering calvin phillips was shot dead in his home. martin lived across the street. at the time, martin spoke to station wsmv claiming calvin phillips had had an affair with his ex. >> you know, you could tell something was going on. i didn't know exactly what. >> reporter: but he denied knowing anything about the murders. former army major martin was court-martialed in 2016 in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct. found guilty of a lesser charge of mishandling classified information. calvin phillips was set to testify in that case. it's unclear if that court-martial came up in his background check to fly. >> the fact that this pilot had an army court-martial conviction should have come up in the hirin
