[laughter] when she embraced an issue, she pursued it until the end. no matter the consequences. no matter what others thought. her integrity made her sparkle like a diamond in the senate. i was dazzled by that internal gyroscope for the first time in 1994, when i closely worked with dianne as the author of the house version of the assault weapon ban which dianne champion in the senate. she worked to the bell harder -- that bill harder than an -- anyone i have ever seen. attacking every eggo, thinking of everym her own allowing us to be present in your happy place. dianne considers her happy place where she challenged us a

we were known as dianne feinstein's band. any time there was any event activity, city or what have you, we basically were chosen in as the band to perform for any occasion. and i remember begging my grandmother, begging her to get me some new pantyhose. i remember begging my grandmother for something new to look nice for the mayor. and she in fact bought the band sweaters that we wore that day, the band sweaters that we wore so proudly. and there was a level of pride to be in front of the mayor, to watch the mayor witness us play and to be. she was so proud of us. and she said so. and she took the time to talk to us. express how amazing we were and to remind us that we were her band, jack martin's was our conductor. he was our teacher. he was our friend. he loved her. so and in fact, when the 49 ers won the super bowl and she loved the san francisco 49 ers, they had a big celebration at the fairmont hotel. and, you know that the ben franklin middle school band was right there to play for her. she stopped by to say hi to us. s

barbara boxer and dianne feinstein.i know you covered them both together and separately. what was that dynamic like? it was a historic pairing. well barbara boxer was always a bit more liberal than dianne feinstein and dianne feinstein was always more popular than barbara boxer, at least statewide. and back when they were first running, barbara boxer election was in some jeopardy. dianne feinstein's never really was. she she was pretty much a comfortable victor. well, before election night. and so if my recollection is correct, the last month or two, she gave some of her campaign money to the boxer campaign, took her along to all her or to all her functions because she knew that boxer had a liberal reputation and this is, again, it was a statewide race. and there's certainly conservative parts of the state. and she and she brought them along. and one thing that's unusual about that election back in 1992, you not only were they two women, they were two jewish women from the very liberal bay area. right which also brings

we are one hour from the service for dianne feinstein. the late senator will be remembered for a political career that began in this very building. it was a career of many firsts and one that took her to washington, dc. we are expecting a who's who of state and national leaders to attend. buses boarding outside of u.s. capitol, they have arrived in the bay area to attend the service, show of support for a senate colleague who many served with since feinstein was sworn in in 1993. >> the area around city hall is under tight security. initially the memorial service was going to be open to the public, partly because of the all the dignitaries it was made a private event last night. there is a perimeter around city hall that will keep people far back to see or hear the actual service. people are told to watch the service which we are live streaming on our cbs news bay area stream and our sister station pix plus. >> one person who is there, julia is live. you will be out there all afternoon for us. i have guess already people are starting to a

the first one was senator dianne feinstein back in 1978. all the way until 1988 her good friend congresswoman nancy pelosi. she showed up at around 8 38. 45 in the morning. she came here with her secret service detail. she came inside. of course, skip the line, went right to the casket, spent moments with the casket. talk to katherine at one point, even kissed the casket. it was nancy pelosi who helped escort senator dianne feinstein's body back from washington, d.c., to san francisco to sfo over the weekend. it's safe to say that she will be at the funeral services tomorrow. if you want to come here, let me just tell you, you cannot come on this particular side of san francisco city hall. you have to use the side entrance over there. that's on grove. that's the entrance you'll have to use to go inside. otherwise this is off limits as they have the security detail. not to mention that they have blocked off this area to allow the people to work. senator dianne feinstein being remembered as a titan as a trailblazer. her resume goes on and on
