that would have been something i would have loved to get from dick brodhead.alked to trustee members. when i asked about -- >> chairman of the board? >> he would not comment on why they settled. other members would in and off the record. basically, the reason he gave -- they gave was that some duke administrators early on who were not lawyers gave the kids bad legal advice which was do not tell your parents, do not go lawyers, cooperate with the police, and this will go away. that gave duke -- they thought they had legal exposure because of that. there was this desire to make this go away, to protect the duke brand. to make sure what it was decided that if these kids were innocent, what duke wanted was not to litigate with them about what happened. that course of action is to give them $20 million. signing nondisclosure agreements which explained why they are not talking to me and have not talked to anybody. it is not exactly clear why duke felt the need to pay these kids. people get wrongly convicted all the time. there are places like the innocent project th
