joining me now to discuss this all is senate minority whip dick durbin of illinois. he serves on the judiciary committee. senator, good to see you, as always. >> thanks, jake. how much do you think carter page can reveal in this ongoing probe? >> i don't know how much he was involved. his name has certainly been prominent, but, you know, what we've seen is let's figure out who the witnesses are, what the evidence may be and follow it to its logical conclusion. i don't know if the house intelligence committee has that same goal. i hope they do. >> the chairman and ranking members. judiciary committee on which you serve say they have yet to receive these fabled comey memos. what next steps are you prepared to taken to sure that you get a chance to read them? >> well, of course, we want to see these memos. there's a legitimate question to be raised about the head of the fbi. that is in the jurisdiction of the judiciary committee. we'd like to know the circumstances for the firing of comey and, of course, we want to know the standards that are being used to pick his succ

dick durbin came out he told us that he knew when he wrote that memo that he knew that mr. trump was indeed going to fire james comey ahead of time. david: interesting thing though we also had a may 4th testimony been reexamined of jim comey where he said he never had any political interference with any fbi investigation. that seems to contradict handwritten notes he put forward or at least his supporters put forward taken back in february around the time of the firing of general flynn, suggesting that the president was pressuring him in certain ways with regard to the investigation to drop an investigation into general flynn. so, there is a lot of conflicting information, some of it augers well for the president. some of it augers well for his opposition. so, all of this is going to be sorted out. clearly mr. mueller has a lot on his plate. here we have the president of colombia and the president of the united states. let's listen to the two gentlemen. again president of colombia is fluent in english but there may be a translator. >> thank you very much. it's a great pleas

but we just heard from one of his senate colleagues, senator dick durbin. what he said, he's given us a date. he said based on the briefing that the deputy attorney general knew on may 8 that james comey would be fired. i have to grab my calendar to understand how that syncs up with the other data points here and the timing of the writing of the memo. the senator has just told us that it was may 8, that was the date that the deputy attorney general knew already what the outcome would be with the former fbi director, james comey. he was a little less definite. it's one of these situations that everybody hears something different. he was a little less definite about this idea that it had crossed a threshold to a criminal investigation and that this would negatively impact their investigations on the senate side into the russian alleged contacts with the trump campaign. but he did indicate again, one of the themes that has come out of the stakeout today that the special counsel, the former fbi director, robert mueller has a broad scope in this investigation. i
