"action news" reporter sara bloomquist is live at city hall, lets go first to reporter dann cuellar, who is among the crowd since this began. what is going on right now? >> reporter: jim, they are hearing a number of speakers, a crowd gathered on the northwest corner of city hall and they are denouncing police brutality and showing solidarity for baltimore and freddie gray who died while in police custody. they want to stand up for the people of baltimore who are rising up against what they say are racist police and point to the high-profile killings of michael brown in ferguson missouri, and jerome reed killed in new jersey. they are standing with baltimore to show they are against racism of any type. pretty much peaceful demonstration, they intent to march here later and right now they are gathered making speeches and anyone can go up there and make a speech. this is the latest from city hall. i'm dann cuellar, ch

john rawlins was at today's demonstration and joins us live from dillworth park with more. >> reporter: hi sara, in congress there say massive federal transportation funding bill that is due to expire at the end of next month we had a stage full of politicians and transportation folks that got pretty fired up about it. >> we hope this is the largest rally in the country. >> sometimes fiery rhetoric with congress passing legislation for transportation funding by the may 1st deadline. >> the infrastructure is crumbling and we endangering our public safety. the pressure to pass a long-term transportation funding bill. >> it's not a democratic or republican matter it helps everyone. >> it's a safety bill, people are getting hurt and maimed on our road. we need transportation more than oxygen in this country. >> federal funding is the biggest source. what would be at risk? many projects from current road rebuilding to massive transit upgrades. >> all the projects that are currently under construction comes to a stop, so i-95 and all of that construction will have to pause if the money isn't
