. >> we know dozens of homes were destroyed along the silverado trail and dion lim is there. ng, dion. >> reporter: good morning to you. it is happening more frequently now as you can see right there emergency response vehicles not to mention residents of the silverado highlands neighborhood are starting to stream in this morning, past the barricade, getting past highway patrol, desperately trying to get to their homes. in fact, i just spoke to a woman who lives just a couple blocks away who lost 40 head of cattle and the rest of her animals are in danger this morning. an officer on the scene tells me he does not recommend driving down these roads near the napa area of that silverado country club because of the number of downed power lines and that's why we decided to stay out here. of course, yesterday those flames raged through the country club, destroying grand stands and parts of the golf course itself and a battalion chief we spoke to says this fire hits particularly close to home. he has been assigned to the same facility for nearly ten years. >> i know a lot of resident

first we start with abc 7 news anchor dion lim in napa where officials gave us an update a short time ago. >> reporter: that's right, reggie, here at the napa county sheriff's department, they sent a somber yet very strong message this morning asking for patience. napa county is in what they describe as energy response mode where they're still assessing damage and coming up with these numbers. two dead including a 98 and 1 100-year-old couple and 0% containment. the other thing cal fire asked for was safety awareness. >> typical of time of an incident some areas where we don't see smoke that understandably people want to get back in. however, it's not safe to do that until we secure the utility, the gas lines, ensure trees aren't going to fall down on top of someone. so that area of repopulation is a process that we're already starting to work on. however, it is not as easy as one would hope to ensure that safety. so i ask that people please be patient. as we work in these areas. >> reporter: now, on that note of safety, even though a lot of people want to go back to their homes and a
