reporter: in oakland, dion lynn. >> today the federal government announced it has ordered 2.5 million more doses of the moxie -- monkeypox vaccine and san francisco set to receive more than 4000. but as leon melendez tells us, some organizations call it a complete failure of our health system. reporter: just last week, 500 people on the waiting list for the monkeypox vaccine. today, the number has grown exponentially. >> we have over 3000 folks on our waiting list. reporter: last week the white house reported 144,000 doses would be on their way nationwide, but as of today, the need much greater than the allocation. it is up to the california department of health to distribute them to county health officials. earlier in the week, san francisco sounded the alarm, saying it needed the initial 35,000 doses. those would be sent to san francisco general and the eight scam dacian -- aids foundation. >> we have yet to receive an update, however fear and concerns continue. call volume on our monkeypox hotline continues. reporter: while the region waits, the cdc warned there are options other t
