this is the bridge that leads to the caltrain and diridon station here. this car is about under 3 feet of water or so. the good news right now is that the water is receding. if you look tow ride, you can see the public works department trying to unclog the drains that clogged up out here in downtown san jose. so this all happened in the 4:00 hour. i'm guessing that i heard a lot of the heavy rainstorms passed by in the 2:00 hour. so it took some time for the water to collect down here. but this woman, she tried to bring her car under the bridge probably not a good idea to do that withstanding water. we tried to talk with her. she was okay. we tried to talk with her. here's what happened. are you okay? >> yeah. i'm okay but i don't want to -- i don't want an interview. >> reporter: okay. what happened? [ no response ] >> reporter: what happened? so she is doing all right. san jose police took her away. firefighters and police officers were giving her pats on the back and hugs. she was barefoot, soaked to the bone. so good luck to her. hope everything is al

this is the alameda under the overpass that goes through diridon station with the train stations over here. you take a lot of heavy thunderstorms overnight, combine that with drivers going way too fast making a lot of bad choices, and it adds to up a good bit of drama during the morning commute. a lot of things on this very wet wednesday morning all seemed like a good idea at the time. case in point? the driver of this mercury sedan now barefoot and soaked was coming home from work on the alameda in downtown san jose. she saw the car ahead of her go through the underpass fine and decided to go for it herself. suddenly, a rush of water came at her and slammed into the car. to give you some idea of the force of all that rushing water, the woman was coming down the hill in the left lane, the water slammed into the driver's side and then pushed her clear into the next lane. the engine flooded and died. the woman ditched her boots, escaped to safety by wading through waist-deep water and didn't have much to say. are you okay? >> yeah. i'm okay but i don't want to do an interview. >> report

this is under the underpass of the railroad track that leads into the diridon station. they are unclogging the drains. we have seen the waters recede about 18" in the past hour or so. we have new details about how it happened. according to the woman's son, the woman who drove this car here, she says that -- he said she was coming home from work and she saw a car ahead of her go through the water okay under the bridge. that's when she decided to go. once she went under a wall of water came out of nowhere slammed into her car pushing it off to the side. that's why sitting off at an angle and killed the engine and she swam to safety. she was barefoot, completely soaked to the bone. officers and firefighters were giving her pats on the back and drove her home. she is presumably now enjoying a nice hot beverage and doing okay. this is what happened when we tried to talk to her. are you okay? >> yeah. i'm okay. but i don't want an interview. >> reporter: okay. what happened?
