the mayor's office of disability has some inspectors. our next step is working together to figure out how we utilize these resources to possibly minimize our small businesses from having to pay the private sector for these services. an additional thing, though this will take some funding and planning -- lawrence cornfield -- kornfield did a great video in 2007 explaining the difference between the ada and the california building codes. now that we have casp it would be great to do a new video, and promote that as an online tool for businesses to watch. i do have one last thing i would like to add for moving forward. that is that with the sb-1608, the california commission on disability access was formed. i think for the department of building inspection, spall business commission, and mayor's office of disability, working for wood to star providing reports and feedback -- working forward to start providing reports and feedback for that commission. with that, i will turn it over to neil friedman. i also want to state that susan mizner fro

relocation costs in the mayor's office on disability for fiscal year 2010-2011. supervisor avalos: colleagues, last week, i spoke about waffling on this issue. i was not sure how i was going to vote. since last week, i am more certain that i am voting know. it was a difficult vote for me. i felt there was needs to fix things in the board chambers, but i saw the same sites i see on a daily basis, wheelchair ramps that are not completed, a ramp where groundwork has been started on the corner of san jose and geneva. there are too large plastic barriers so it is very difficult to get through. i thought the department of water was working on that but it looks like they have not done any work whatsoever and i see these large plastic barriers lying's a scant and making it even more difficult to pass through. i feel like we do not have the luxury of making symbolic acts to fix the wheelchair ramp when we have real things in our district that people face every day. is not just one or two people. it is hundreds of people on a daily basis. look at each and every rampant und

that's a very cheap and easily achievable standard of improving disabled access. here is another counter with no lowered counter area. this is a sushi shop on kerni street. very open, very accessible, but it doesn't have a lowered area to do either service transaction or for other kind of seating. inside the cala market -- now, markets are required to have at least one checkout stand of a sufficient width for people in wheelchairs to use. and that checkout counter must always be open whenever the market is open. the way that's been solved in most markets is to make them all accessible, which is great, which we think is a good solution, but not required. here at the cala, every one is accessible and they each have the little international symbol of accessibility on them. they also have a little sign that says, if you need any help at all, ask us. a wonderful thing to do. it's not a physical barrier removal, but it's a good way to try and make sure your customers understand that this is an important issue. here is an example of one of these lowered transaction count

i have experienced firsthand, working with a lot of people with disabilities. like mary said, if they do not passed training, if they are not comfortable, they are happy not to do so. we are happy to invite everyone with disabilities if they're able to before the scheduled tour to try it out to see if they are comfortable with it. four instances really stand out to me in my experience as a tour guide. one woman had polio, another with ms, two men -- one elderly man i took out 88 years old. another man who had one leg. all four of them were not able to walk on their own, but were able to stand up on their own they needed help on and off, but when they were there, they describe the time of their life, they had not felt that confident in years. i felt honored to share that experience with them. i really feel great that we can offer and provide tours to tourists and locals alike who suffer from disabilities and are not able to enjoy the park on foot or bike. thank you. supervisor mar: thank you. i am going to start calling other names. charles allen quist. daniel h
