the first model of disability states that disability is a bad thing that should be fixed or put away causing ableism or discrimination against a disability. as you can see from a picture is an a little bit of a drawing of what a medical model looks like where the individual is a problem and the impairment of chronic illness impose real difficulties but not the main problem. the traditional view shows disability is caused by physical, mental impairment. if the person is impaired, it's a problem. the focus on the medical profession is a cure or lessen the effect on impairment. the social model states that it says disability is neutral. neither good nor bad and normal part of life. disability isn't need of treatment. it's ableism or social barriers that are the problem, there is a social model that are societal barriers for an individual and environment and languages and communities and attitudes and prejudicism and stereotyping and the organizations are flexible with procedures or practices. from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, parents were encouraged to institutionalize

it's women with disabilities, physical, intellectual disabilities who are the subject of maltreatment, mistreatment, sexual abuse. all we're saying is they have got to be treated the same as any other woman without a disability under the laws of that country, so if a country banned all abortions, that's their -- that's their right to do so. they cannot then say oh, except, except you can have abortion if your unborn child is disabled. you can't do that. you can't -- you can't make exceptions. or if they provide any kind of services, they can't say to one woman because you're not disabled, you get this service, but if you're disabled, you don't get it. no, no. equality of access. i want to point out that 71 countries, 71 countries that have absolute prohibitions or significant restrictions on abortion have signed the treaty without reservations about reproductive health. imagine that. 71. they felt that no harm would come for a reservation because they correctly determined that the treaty is no threat whatsoever to their sovereignty and their national laws limiting access to abortion.

the next update is on the mayor's office of disability website. i wanted to give you a quick report on our project. about 7 or 8 months ago i gave you an introduction to let you know that our office started conversations with our city's web master to do an overhaul of our city's website. many of the city's web site is currently getting reformed. if you go to the mayor's office on disability website today you will see there is a new but ton at the top for accessibility. if you click on that link, it provides many new options including the ability to read, selected text out loud and to enlarge text without having any special software on your own computer like jaws or zoom text. the city's new standard format is also easier to read on a smartphone and tablet because it expands the different tabs that are there. along with this new city format, i found the opportunity to make our mod site more friendly and moren intuitive and better links to information and resources. our office started a major overhaul. we decided it wasn't enough to just move inform

we have from the leaders disability community. let me back up. and came together to identify what are some priority issues and that must be tackled as we figure out how to design protected bike ways. this next slide we have five issues that we identified. so the first is distinction and clarity to separate the spaces between people and bicycles and pedestrian. a second is slower pedestrian crossing and third access to bus stops along bike ways, fourth, para transit drop off on curb and accessible parking on blue zones. after we convened and identified these five sets of priorities. we came to the agreement that the best way to do this was to address these issues in one place rather than starting from scratch at the beginning with each project. and to do that we created an inter agency working group with the partner that i mentioned earlier, the mayor's office on disabilities, public works and the planning department to present to you the document today. to your knowledge this is the first in this country. because of this well make the same living
