if i were in an economical hardship, which i am, it's mostly because of my disability. i obtained my masters degree and eligible to be a professor in a school. however, if i take that job, the system would cutoff all my benefits and i rely on a person to get me out of the bed every morning to give me a shower and to get me going with life assuming that life will be on my side that day. that's how i live my life very positively and very happy that i'm able to have a roof over my head and my mom is back there in puerto rico feeling safe that i'm there now. i guess i don't have to explain to you how people with disabilities so much likely that we will find a job and that employers will under that we are able to do our jobs and that we have our brains intact and despite that, it's very challenging because we have disabilities. it doesn't matter. at this point i'm living off 10 hours a week of work that i can luckily to do at home. paid at $14 an hour. i have to live off that because if i earn $1,000 a month they cut me completely off my benefits which i cannot live without

i'm here as a disabled person who was able to purchase my home on disability as well. i also spent time in a wheelchair as my partner and i was able to buy mine because i got hit by a car too. i have permanent brain damage. however as much as i relate to you, i want to be very careful about this slippery slope. when i bought my condominium, i paid my special assessments, i was glad to do that and paid for school district fees even though i don't have children and never will because i support the goals of this society. when i sold my condominium, i paid all of my fees and taxes and willingly. i want to be really thoughtful about trying to remove this tool that we have in place and then also, one of the things that does pop into my head because that is on sanchez street, i don't know about the eviction history of the building, but i also wonder about the potential that disabled people with aids were displaced in order to create those tic's and i think we should do a little bit more research so we are not inadvertently rewarding higher income disabled people and their par

that's a very cheap and easily achievable standard of improving disabled access. here is another counter with no lowered counter area. this is a sushi shop on kerni street. very open, very accessible, but it doesn't have a lowered area to do either service transaction or for other kind of seating. inside the cala market -- now, markets are required to have at least one checkout stand of a sufficient width for people in wheelchairs to use. and that checkout counter must always be open whenever the market is open. the way that's been solved in most markets is to make them all accessible, which is great, which we think is a good solution, but not required. here at the cala, every one is accessible and they each have the little international symbol of accessibility on them. they also have a little sign that says, if you need any help at all, ask us. a wonderful thing to do. it's not a physical barrier removal, but it's a good way to try and make sure your customers understand that this is an important issue. here is an example of one of these lowered transaction count
