divya arya, here in delhi. our next story is one that few could forget.grown and modernised, it has also faced the challenges of industrial and environmental pollution. in 1984, an industrial disaster in the city of bhopal shocked the country and the world. farah edwards khan was there that day. we could see the union carbide factory from the topmost part of our house. it was making pesticides and it was a source of income for poor people. it was a normal evening, we we went to bed and then about11:30, 11:45, we heard a big banging on the door. my father, he opened the door and my cousin was standing outside there and he said there's been a gas accident. we didn't realise what exactly was happening. we shut the doors and we went off to sleep. the next morning, my family woke up and my father drove me down to the school, everything was very quiet. there was a silence. we saw some people just lying, and my fathersaid, "oh, wedding season, must be drunk." we drove on, we went to my school, then the gatekeeper came out and he said, "what are you doing here? t

divya arya explains why. hospitals in india are overwhelmed. as coronavirus has swept the country.lready in a critical condition before this pandemic. here's why. it doesn't have many hospital beds. according to a study in 2017 india had just 50 hospital beds per 100,000 people. that's far fewer than russia which at 710, china which had 430 and the united states which has 290. it's low on medical staff. in 2018 it had 90 physicians per 100,000 people. compare this to china who have 200, the united states with 260 and russia with 400. the quality of care can be poor. a lot of indians die each year due to poor quality health care. in 2018 it was measured at around 122 per 100,000. that's a rate much worse than that of neighbours china which had a6, bangladesh which had 57 and sri lanka which had only 51. people aren't using hospitals. india's hospitalization rates are among the lowest in the world. and it's unlikely that this is due to a healthy population. some people just can't access them. it's too expensive. two thirds of hospital care is provided by the largely unregulated priva

here's more from divya arya.pitals have been sending out sos messages because they have run out of oxygen and unfortunately, patients have died because they haven't got the supply and time. we're seeing allegedly a similar incident any hospital in another part of the country where it has been alleged that more than a two dozen people died after an oxygen shortage impacted the supply that they needed to survive. the hospital has told us that 12 of these patients were covered positive patients were covered positive patients and others were ailing from other diseases. they have yet admitted that all the deaths are because of oxygen shortage that they did admit there has been a shortage of oxygen. an inquiry has been called into the incidents. and several of delhi's hospitals have been pleading for supplies over social media. here's one example. this tweet reads... on monday delhi authorities have also asked the army to set up covid facilities and intensive care units. and all of this is happening as the results from
