it's not a dnc website.t's a third-party website that the dnc uses to track some of its information and it was clearly targeting that site. so we very quickly got the heads of security from dnc and that third-party site as well as the site that was hosting the phishing site itself and got them all on the phone, put together a quick investigation, involved the fbi and got the site taken down long before any phishing messages could be sent. >> this was a fake page that was designed to look very much like a dnc page and what exactly was it trying to do with the information or from potential users? >> what it was was a copy of a login page and i'll be honest. it was an incredibly high fidelity copy. nobody who looked at the two sites side by side could tell the difference between them. it was indistinguishable. so when a user would have gotten an e-mail or text message or facebook message that said hey, go log in and when the usinger logged in, it would have -- user logged in, it would have recorded their name a

we all know fusion gps was employed by the dnc and theer clinton campaign.hey paid them ultimately to dig up what ended up being russian dirt on then-candidate donald trump. tonight there are new concerns over another client of fusion gps. that's the russian lawyer who attended that meeting. that everyone has been talking about. she utilized simpson's services to lobby against sanctions. this plot just keeps thickening and according to testimony she had dinner with simpson both before and after the trump tower meeting. sounds like a set-up to me. and because simpson's relationship with that financier named william browder was, "so concerned about fusion's g.p.s. work on behalf of russian interest" that in july of 2016, he actually lodged a complaint with the doj. let me put it simply. clinton's op research firm g.p.s. was working on behalf the dnc, hillary clinton, and also russian-backed interests. that's right.. it's all literally represented by the same person, glenn simpson. that's exactly as sketchy as it sounds. but where is the hysteria from the media

the dnc alerted the fbi and a blocked access to that page. the really significant thing is, again, security organizations and political organizations are taking this threat of phishing and fake news more seriously. does highlight -- one of my issues is this voter registration stuff. if you tamper with those records, you can cause a lot of chaos. you can cause people to go to the relevant places on polling days, they can be targeted with inaccurate ads, things like that. registration data, while qualify public -- quasi-public, is very valuable to hackers and political operatives. in this case, all it would have taken from my understanding is one democratic official, either a local or state or federal, to log into and fall victim to the fake phishing page, which would give their attackers access to the democrat's national voter database. what they could do with it is open to question, but it shows it does not take a lot for some of the hackers to be successful. emily: we often focus on whether the vote count could be changed or hacked, but the
