dolan from cleveland, ohio, the state senator matt dolan in green.ed here in blue there are other candidates on this map like you see a little bit of red here, some other candidates running right now. the red is mike gibbons a businessman running for the senate seat in ohio. so, these three candidates, timken down the list here. three-way race it appears. where are the votes coming in from. i mentioned the three c's. cincinnati, columbus and cleveland. we do have results out of columbus. this is franklin county. but to be frank with you, brian. it's not a ton. dolan 2800 raw votes. j.d. vance 1800. i was looking just two observations here and again this map is going to fill in throughout the night and keep coming in. two observations, brian, if you looked at some of the early voting and ohio has some of the most liberal laws. you can vote on saturdays and sundays. you can vote for a month. and republicans seem to be beating democrats just about every category in the early voting. now, having said that the recallry voting turnout compared to where we

[applause] i want to say some thing about mike gibbons, one of the great business leaders in northeastern ohio, a person who has given a lot to our party, given a lot to charities all across the state of ohio. mike ran a campaign as a normal guy from ohio who just want to do it the lives of ohioans better, and he did a great job. thank you for the campaign you ran, and god bless you. he has 10,000 votes over josh mandel, and also matt dolan who is the least trumpian.shed himself among the other candidates mike given and also jane timken, because he says to put the big lie behind them, and the party has to stop talking about it. and so, trump won by winning all of the small counties, but at the moment, you can see josh mandel winning in those small rural counties and jd vance is winning the others. we are counting the votes as we go, and here is 20% of the vote. so a long way to go in the count. if matt dolan can pull it off, it is going to be interesting, because this is what we will watch. franklin county is the largest population-wise in the county. it has the state capital columbus, and matt dolan is in the state capital, and you would see where the establishment is in and around the capital. and look at the margin in franklin county so far. we are at 12%, and if this margin holds up, he can add some margin and come back. that is columbus. and then his family owns the guardians and he is well known in the cleveland area, and this is one of dona

this is dolan's base. dolan is leading here. when we were looking at numbers out of cuyahoga numbers, dolan was crushing vance. margin was 20 points. now the same day vote has come in, vance has moved that into single digits. that's great to be in dolan's backyard doing that well. suburbs just north of columbus, ohio, bedrock republican suburbs the place that dolan wanted to win and get big numbers. instead vance looks like he's on the way to outright winning delaware county. hamilton county, cincinnati, vance grew up in the area here. you can see he's leading in hamilton county, cincinnati right now. so actually geographically a pretty expansive victory for vance. again the numbers sitting at 31%, more than 70% in. i wouldn't be surprised if it ticked up a little more that vance number before the night is over. also, if mandel ends up running second ahead of dolan, wouldn't be surprised by that either. but bottom line, jd vance wins the primary and donald trump, we said, this was a test of his clout with republican primary vote

and says does not want dolan winning this nomination. think there's two dynamics that are coming into focus here right now. number one is that dole and core areas of strength or going to be the metropolitan area. so for instance, he's from cuyahoga county this or cleveland's, his family owns the cleveland guardians baseball team. we are seeing is basically the early vote. this is the via male, this is the early in-person vote. you already see dolan leading up with this vote. you've got a lot of votes still to come in. in cuyahoga county. he's going to do very well it looks like in places, give you another example. the state capital, franklin county, columbus, you're looking at the early vote already doled is cleaning up a lot to come. we have no vote yet in all the -- hamilton county this is where cincinnati is. so the metro areas, it looks like dolan is going to do very well tonight. and it looks like there's a lot of vote to come still from the metro areas around the state. so opportunity as the new vote comes in for dolan to move up.

dolan wins it but vance didn't get blown away here. franklin county dolan wins by six points. go north of columbus to the suburbs of delaware, bedrock republican suburbs, delaware county, ohio. jd vance wins here. i know he has roots in the cincinnati area but jd vance looks like he's going to win hamilton county, take also where toledo is. the vance coalition was strongest in those rural counties that really are the heart of trump country in ohio but he didn't get blown away in the metro areas either. it adds up to almost a ten-point victory here statewide. when you look at the trajectory of the race and the same day votes, vance and mandel were both doing the best with the same day voters, the folks who waited until election day to cast their ballots. it really does speak to the trump had picked mandel, i wouldn't be surprised if mandel finished first. but trump picked vance and vance did the best yesterday. >> over the past 10 years or so, ohio is even more surprising than pennsylvania, wisconsin, michigan, florida, which has become much more red. this is a state that barac

if you're the dolan campaign, j.d.mandel has gone hard after trump voters, gibbons has gone hard after trump voters, is there a lane that opens up that he has to himself that in what crowded jumbled primary could lead to an unlikely victory? that's the possibility suggested by a couple of these polls. we should also note j.d. vance with that trump endorsement in the last few weeks clearly seems to have moved him up here numbers-wise. if you went back to last year, you didn't see polls that had j.d. vance leading. you now see some polls that have j.d. vance. and i think an intriguing one here that's emerged over the weekend with dolan, again, the one candidate here who has really not gone after donald trump and is not going after trying to get the trump endorsement. >> let's ask mark about this. one of the things that donald trump is doing across the country is he's endorsed a candidate that's not being endorsed by the establishment republicans and in some cases endorsing candidates that are running against republican i

i talked to two women who looked at dolan as a progressive, as someone on the left.nd vance, and he says he's going to support vance probably at let in part in spite of donald trump. and again, vance is talking about topics like immigration, the border, issues that are very much in the trump playbook. so is mandel even without the former presidential's endorsement. here's what he told us last week. >> we just came from dayton. i spoke at a podium. on the front of the podium it said mandel for u.s. senate. the reason it said that is i believe so strongly in the america first agenda that president trump delivered for my people here in the state of ohio. i know a lot of folks think america first is a slogan, but it's a governing philosophy. >> the name trump is much more than an endorsement. >> it's a governing philosophy. when it comes to the economy, when it comes to jobs in our state. >> reporter: so literally on his advertisement we have seen pro trump across the screen. he does not have the former president's endorsement even suggesting the candidate of trump's cho

matt dolan. trump said he kind of likes all of the candidates.dolan in the last couple weeks. he issued statements. he said that's the one candidate he does not want to win this primary. dolan is the one candidate who has condemned donald trump over his actions on and around january 6th. he said that trump perpetuated lies about the 2020 election. and there was a moment in a debate between all of the candidates when they were asked, raise your hand if you think that donald trump should stop talking about the 2020 election, one candidate raised his hand. he has earned the ire of trump. and there's some indications of the polling in the final days of this campaign, of movement in dolan's direction. it's interesting if mandel, gibbons and vance, if they split up the vote. does it open up a lane for the one candidate that donald trump has identified as the candidate he does not want to win this primary. that's a dynamic that's been introduced in the final couple days of this campaign. that's one we will keep a close eye on. it's a jumbled picture. on

dolan expected to do well don't decent but he's from northern ohio. up here where he's really expected to do well, i showed this earlier today, this is where trump had the rally with jd vance and he's at 35% in delaware county. if josh mandell or dolan really wanted to cut in vance's lead you would expect to see that in counties like delaware quickly growing, rather affluent. this is ciahoga county in cleveland. it's the rest of this state where you see jd vance is wiping up, southwest and southern part of the state some rural counties up in the northeast also. remember, remember when trump won in 2016? we were at the board that night sean and i was showing you these were counties held by democrats for 50 years and trump broke through that wall and listen, there are going to be a lot of pieces written this week about trump's endorsement and what it means. i can tell you that, i mean, this is jd vance territory right now. okay? go back a year and a half ago, this is biden and trump in ohio and this is trump winning easily by eight points. what we don't

however matt dolan, little ways down the list there he got a little bit of a surge as well. kind of been to the former presidents winds. what is that saying about the ohio landscape and wet may be to come? >> well i think the main takeaway from that poll is the leader. it wasn't j.d. vance, it was a candidate named undecided. voters still are not sure who they want to vote for, there is this 25% chunk that's undecided. especially when you look at margins of error, 3% either direction. this is a candidate field at the top that is really muddy and it's because you have vance, mandel, gibbons and taken are all fighting for the pro trump elaine. so the question is where are those undecided going to break? if they break primarily for vance, that's good for him and i think that's why they're hoping the tremendous meant does. but dolan is sitting there making a different bet saying i think all of those folks are going to sort of tangle up at the top and split a large piece of the pie but a piece of the pie nonetheless. the trump voter. and dolan is hoping that there is enough looke

he was magnanimous to everybody including matt dolan. what do you make of that? i guess it meant like guys like portman rallied around vance. >> reporter: he put out a statement and said he's behind vance. in the republican electorate, he walks away with about 22%. he was the only candidate who said he would not have objected to certifying joe biden as the winner in 2020. that is where there is a reality here within the republican party. even look at the likes of mike dewine and the secretary of state who, you know, had been surrounded by some figures here. he was thought of at one time as being a little bit more of a protector of the old guard. but he was ultimately on the rally stage two weeks ago with j.d. vance and with donald trump. here in ohio, the land formerly of john kasich is very much in the donald trump wagon now. >> i want to play a little bit of a clip from tim ryan. he has a ton of money to run against vance because the left is not j.d. vance's polarizing, it means it should help ryan spend some money. he's already spending it. let me play a clip
