in mission dolores park. on july 16 of 2009, they approved the distribution of our request. they did on specific locations and allowed respondents to propose. the review the proposals and selected six respondents to interview. in january, they interviewed those respondents. we reviewed the recommendation to permit blue bottle coffee. the department is excepting approval, and we intend to return with additional respondents, and i also want to note this is part of a citywide effort to make food carts more accessible to the public. we have someone from the mayor's office who is going to speak briefly about this program. >> it is the director designate. >> thank you. i just wanted to take a minute to put this notion of food cards in a larger context. they created the first strategy, and part of that was to identify major economic drivers of our economy. this includes tourism, parts, food, and recreation. they specifically talked about ways to expand the economic engine, and because we are a land-constrained city,

a $1.5 million gift to renovate the dolores park playground. and another $150,000 gift from the san francisco parks trust to provide basically equipment and supplies for our new rec centers. this is in addition to some of the philanthropy generated by a couple of other key partners. the city fields foundation which over the past five years has given the department -- contributed to the department nearly $25 million, to renovate our play fields. and several million dollars from trust for public lant land who has helped us raise money to renovate three very important park projects. we've implemented, as we talked about today, we've implemented new amenities and concessions in our parks that help generate revenue from the department. obviously our food carts have been much discussed today. but we've also got an teak market at candlestick, a new parkwide bicycle rental which will enable our park users to rent a bike and ride it and drop the bike off there. we've got a new management agreement at the harding park golf course that is now awaiting boar

there are a lot of people excited about having the amenities in dolores park. there are others with concerns about it. we will have a community meeting on the 27th and see how that goes. we will come back to the commission to let you know how that meeting went. we will also come back to you with an update on where we would be located and blue bottle. >commissioner lee: you are not going to reopen the selection of the vendors? >> we have a roaming rflp for amenities in our parks. we have 225 properties. we heard the presentation from the mayor's office of economic development. based on some of our own feedback, we hear from park users all the time a desire for amenities in our parks. we also understand the need to work with our communities and neighborhoods in terms of how, when, and where. this is not the only opportunity to actually submit a bid to participate in this program. we work with the vendor and we work with the neighborhood and the community on the details. commissioner lee: my concern was that since we have gone through this process we have already
