insanity. >> the jury saw video that may help his case. abc's rean owens has more. >> reporter: this is dash cam video of police chasing double murder suspect eddie routh just hours after he killed chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield. one officer rams the truck. watch the collision again. it doesn't stop routh. the chase reaches speeds of more than 100 miles an hour before the truck has mechanical problems and stops in the middle of the interstate. routh gets out, hands in the air and is swarmed by officers. here's another angle of his takedown from a different dash cam. the marine veteran who served in iraq is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. prosecutors say the fact he is fleeing from police proves he knows right from wrong. the truck routh is in belonged to navy sniper chris kyle whose story is told in the blockbuster "american sniper." kyle along with littlefield brought routh to the gun range to help him cope with ptsd. that's where prosecutors say routh shot them in the back multiple times and stole his pickup. >> he said he killed two guys. they went out to a shooting range. like he's all crazy. he's psychotic. chris kyle's widow was in court after her tear full court on wednesday. prosecutors played another tape for the juror this afternoon. this video from a officer's body camera. that is routh in the truck just before the police chase. his neighbor who is also a cop is trying to get him to surrender. the officer says routh told them, i have taken a couple of souls and i have some more souls to take. >> reporter: the video may not be the slam dunk they appear for the prosecution. on them, routh rambles, talks about devils living among us and even saying he's insane. ryan owens, abc news, stephenville, texas. >>> plenty of questions and few answers this morning about the stabbing death of an attorney in washington, d.c. 30-year-old david messerschmidt was found dead in a room at the boutique hotel called donovan. the person in the surveillance video is a person of interest. they are offering a $25,000 reward for the person's identity. a conditional light vigil was held in his honor last night. >>> president obama attends a get together about cybersecurity today. the president arrives in san francisco last night. the cybersecurity summit happening at stanford university comes amid a wave of high-profile hacking attacks. the summit will focus on boosting u.s. cybersecurity by creating public-private partnerships. in a survey 83% of organizations put cyberattacks among the top three security threats. >>> an abc news abc news are people suspected of child pornography, narcotics trafficking, fraud and espionage. >> if this program is used to undercut our national security it is something that has to be exposed. >> reporter: now u.s. authorities tell abc news they are investigating whether the eb-5 program maybe abused by iranian operatives to infiltrate the united states for smuggling and possible terrorism. authorities are investigating this california shipping company. american logistics international. and its iranian born owner ali mahdavi. even as he has been under national security investigation for allegedly smuggling to iran he has used the eb-5 program to bring in dozens of people. as he arrived back from the middle east last week, he tried to duck our cameras. >> haven't done anything wrong. >> reporter: his company is one of 32 businesses approved for the eb-5 green card program that have come under criminal investigation, raising questions about lax oversight of the program in washington. >> mr. secretary, brian ross from abc news. >> we're not going to do an interview. >> now department of homeland security secretary is under investigation by the inspector general. something he didn't want to talk about with abc news. >> you cannot answer these questions, sir? >> only after that encounter did we start to get answers, including word the los angeles company under let's do it. >> get a big pot of water and bring it to a boil because that takes the longest. then work on pancheta. it is italian bacon but not smoked. big skillet with high sides, olive oil not a lot because the pancheta renders a lot of fat. as you can see, it almost looks like salami. >> like prosciutto. >> it is deeply salty, which i love. chop in to bite-size pieces and add to the skillet. >> about a half cup there. >> about a half cup. it will brown up quickly and get out natural fat. while that happens, i'm going to add a little garlic. while those are getting along and simmering, i want to talk about cherry peppers. mild version of a red bell pepper. these have been in a brine. i tear them. i don't want the seeds because that's where most of the heat is. i get rid of the seeds. >> you are dissecting them. sfliemt pretty much. >> and i tear them with my fingers. a half a cup or so of those and this is looking great. >> that crisped up really fast actually. >> it does. >> i'm going to add my sauce. add that right in. i want two cans. and that flavor just going to intensify and everything together will be phenomenal once it has had a chance to simmer for about 30 minutes. i want to add a couple more things to it. a pinch of italian seasoning. basil, rosemary and a small pinch of sugar. the sugar is a great balance to offset the brine of peppers and little salt and let it simmer for 20, 25 minutes. >> so the peppers go in last? pileups near pittsburgh and behind that storm comes two more blasts of dangerous cold. at least 14 states, and 35 million americans are under windchill advisories or warnings. frostbite could set in, woodruff. >> reporter: he was a strong marine, corporal clay hunt, visibly wounded by a bullet piercing his wrist, but invisibly tormented by post-traumatic stress. so severe that at age 28 he killed himself, two years after returning from afghanistan. he was treated for depression by the v.a., mostly with drugs. when they didn't work, he just got more. he told his friends he felt like a guinea pig for drugs. he tried to warn others in this video on mtv. >> i have done and seen things in my life that for one most people should never have to see. >> reporter: approximate post-traumatic stress he couldn't keep can his job. football games and fireworks set off panic attacks. he wanted to do something. so he traveled with an organization started by a fellow marine to help victims of the earthquake this is haiti and chile. his depression kept getting worse. >> we have 22 veterans today committing suicide here. that's an issue that needs to be seared in the forefront of every citizen's mind. >> reporter: his family hopes with this new law those suffering will get more state-of-the-art care for the wounds we can't see. >> he would not care if his name was attached to a bill or anything. all he would care about is okay, they listened and they are going to take care of my fellow veterans. >> reporter: it's taken a lot of time to get the law passed. anytime you try to spend more tax money there is a lot of resistance. in this case, though the republican senate and republican house actually agreed with the control of her jeep, crossed in to oncoming traffic and collided with another car sending the other driver to the hospital. >>> a long list of bill cosby accusers is getting longer. two more former models have come forward. they say they were drugged and sexually assaulted by cosby many years ago when they were in their early 20s. details now from abc's ted rowlands. >> horrible experience has had a long-lasting impact on me. as a result, i find it very hard people gathered for the funeral. the crowd so big the service has to be moved from a mosque to an athletic field. >> many are echoing the family's allegations saying they were killed because of their faith. we get more from abc's lana zak. >> reporter: a large crowd con vernld at -- converged at a candlelight vigil for the three victims. >> our hearts go out to the families of the victims. >> it happened to us, as a community that got attacked. >> reporter: three muslim students shot dead. deah barakat, his new wife and her 19-year-old sister. >> please don't fight fire with fire. >> their coffins were carried from the local soccer complex as thousands came to mourn them. police charged this man. 46-year-old neighbor craig steven hicks with three counts of first-degree murder. but that's not enough say the victims' families. >> this has hate crime written all over it. >> reporter: the father of the two slain sisters is demanding hate crime charges. hicks' wife says he may have been motivated by a lingering dispute over a parking space. >> this incident had nothing to do with religion or victims' faith. >> reporter: hicks, who is held without bond had previously proposed on facebook his solution to problems in the middle east, atheism. the council on islamic relations drafting a letter with other groups calling for hate crimes investigation. the fbi is working with local police. >> we are examining every possible investigative angle to include the potential for hate crime. >> reporter: lana zak, abc news, boston. >>> police in houston on the lookout for three gunmen who held up an armored car and shot and killed the driver. investigators say three masked men ambushed the brinks truck outside of a bank. they opened fire when one of the brinks security guards fired back, the gunmen took off. police recovered their pickup truck. they are not saying whether or not the men got away with the money. >>> fast-moving clipper storm has boston in its sights. the storm has brought winter misery to nearly half of the state's bitter cold, traffic accidents and more. overnight temperatures are plunging in to the single digits. and if boston hasn't had enough snow overweight children would be assigned a health adviser who would work up a diet and exercise plan and would follow up every month. parents then could be fined up to $500 if their child doesn't show
