dom chu is in the newsroom with more, hey, dom >> reporter: michelle, get ready for a heck of a rolleroaster ride that's what traders are bracing for when it comes to snap earnings the options market is pricing in an up or down move of 14%, which kind of makes sense seeing as how snap has only had two prior earnings reports and the stock fell on both those days by 21% after its first earnings report and then by 14% after its last quarter earnings report. how does that look compared to other social media companies and their early public life reports? well, for twitter, for instance, the story is somewhat similar. after its first earnings report in february of 2014, the stock dropped by 24% the day after earnings and then dropped by 9% in its next earnings report after that things weren't quite so dramatic when it came to facebook, which dropped around 12% after its first earnings release but then surged 19% after its second one. now, for context, twitter's stock had risen sharply after its ipo so maybe a bigger downside move wasn't that far-fetched early on after a run like that. meanwh

let's get to a man we can't seem to catch up with, dom chu in the newsroom, hey, dom >> reporter: melissa, i'm definitely easy to catch up with especially if you compare me to the likes of nvidia, the usain bolt of stocks it's been on fire for the better part of three years now. the single best performing stock in the s&p 500 last year it's still right now the sixth best performing stock so far this year, heck, even jim cramer named his dog nvidia it's gone so far, so fast, even the analysts who cover the stock seem like they're playing catch-up or are they? nvidia shares are currently trading 14% above their average target price nearly half of analysts cover the stock say it's a buy 38% say it's a hold. and 14% say it's an outright sell for added context, the highest comes from needham who has $50 price targets. the lowest on the street is wells fargo securities which has a $75 price tag on it. which begs the question, will analysts now up their targets even more to where shares are at now or perhaps higher or, melissa, do the downgrades start happening given that swift move higher back

dom chu is running the numbers. >> hi, melissa it's really tech and everything else, and just a handful of stocks have been driving all of that action within technology. justier-to-date, look at the lens of exchange-traded funds, the spdr, the s&p, up 16%, very respectable and take a look at the tech sector spdr, xlk, 32% so a doug over its competitors within the market. take a look also going all the way back to 2009 this was the last time that we saw this kind of outperformance by technology overall. that gap is just widening out as we see that performance. we took a look within the xlk, the spdr technology action, so we looked at stocks over $100 billion in market capitalization and have posted better than the index returns. check this out nvidia no surprise there doubling so far this year. $129 billion company facebook, we talked about it earlier on the show. up, a $526 billion and broadcom, $112 billion market cap. everybody talks about apple all the time, nearly 900 billion of market cap 50% upside there and match the card 47%, it's $160 billion company so a lot of names out there
