for that our meteorologist domenica davis. good morning, domenica. >> good morning. warm weather on the east coast. not to mention the severe weather in the plains. good news it's come to an end. this is the cold front that did bring that severe weather to oklahoma yesterday. still pretty good thunderstorms through the ohio valley. this is all going to advance off to the east. so it is going to make for a pretty rainy east coast. out to the west though we do have a few showers around the seattle area that have cleared up. it is still hot in the west and that is going to continue to be the theme right into the weekend. so temperatures are still 10 to 20 degrees above normal. that will not only be for today but right into friday as well. and then into the weekend we're still going to hang onto those hot temperatures out west. that's a look at your natio it stays dry. the heat will still be the big weather story for the next couple of days out to the west. that's a look at your thursday forecast. >> domenica thank you very much. >>> a very funny moment for house leaders

and let's bring in msnbc meteorologist domenica davis. >> we have the equinox and the new moon tonightwhere we just saw ron, that is the heaviest snow bands. so along the coast, south of atlantic city we're seeing it push into the northwestern part of the philadelphia suburbs, sleet coming in and on the grassy surfaces through new york as well and the leading edge is pushing into new england. this will get out of here by tonight. we'll see some lingering snow tomorrow up through massachusetts and parts of upstate new york. and here is a look at future-cast. because the evening commute is still a tricky one. so you have to be careful. this is heavy, wet snow. and much of the accumulation is on grassy surfaces but we'll see the roads become slick by tonight. so 8:00 on the back eighth of this. but the heaviest snow bands are still over the eastern shores of new jersey and then long island. and that is where we're expecting the most snow. by 11:00 tonight we could see a few light isolated snow showers. but then moving out of here. we're looking at a swath of about 3-6 and an additional in

let's check in with domenica davis.ff in maryland as the storm tracks our way. >> it is tracking to the northeast. we do have delays now at the airport. both airports in new york, laguardia and jfk, three hours delay, same in newark and philadelphia. the storm is tracking to the northeast. it's shutting down through the beltway and now it's pushing up through philadelphia new york and even up into connecticut as well. this will always shut down by tonight. we're seeing most accumulations on grassy surfaces but by tonight when the temperatures get colder we could see slick roads out there for the evening commute. here's how the rest of the weekend looks because the snow will shut down tonight. we'll have lingering snow tomorrow through eastern massachusetts and upstate new york. for everybody else it's not too bad. 50 for the first full day of spring in new york city. 63 in washington. that's going to be nice. heavy storms down to the south. it is going to be a stormy first spring weekend for southern folks and then out

let's check in with domenica davis with the totality of the weather and how bad it's been. when you see the threats like this happen it makes you more aware and more worried about it. >> certainly, you know this is really somewhat of a cautionary tale we're going to see freezing conditions and slick roadways continue for the rest of today. i want to start off and show you the 24-hour temperature change. yesterday was a rather nice day and we did have rain. but temperatures were in the 40s across much of the northeast. when this front came through earlier this morning, the temperatures crashed and we're looking at a 24-degree drop in the temperature sips 24 hours ago. so temperatures fell below the freezing mark about 4:00 in the morning here in the city and that's when we started to see the snow come in. already laguardia picked up 3.5 inches of snow. a little bit less than that in the city. the snow hasn't been too terrible but we have been getting bands of heavy snow. visibility has been compromised. less than a half mile for the past several hours. really through the bet

msnbc domenica davis is in the storm cycle right now.eed to know. >> we have 36 hours to get to and we'll say goodbye to this and looking at a quieter pattern on the way. 1500 miles is what we are looking at of watches and warnings of winter weather once again. and here is a look at radio. sleet moving into louisville and so the heaviest snow will start the trend from d.c. on down through the ohio valley. this is going to make for a miserable evening commute through the ohio valley. a closer look and we are still dealing with rain from d.c. up to philly and new york. that will change as temperatures cool off. and we'll see the changeover to snow come in after midnight. so tomorrow morning the commute on the northeast is going to be miserable. and the cold air behind the front is 24 in st. louis. 24 in nashville. it will drop 20 degrees between today and tomorrow. here is a look at the snow totals. the highest snow amounts are going to be south of new york. five inches in d.c. we could see six inches in philly. biggest storm of the year.

checking on the weather that was going on at this time when the plane skidded off the runway domenica davis joins us with more. >> you know it's interesting because looking at what we were dealing with last couple of hours, the visibility was compromised, down to a quarter mile visibility. on a clear day, ten miles. that is significantly lowered. and also hearing freezing fog is being reported at laguardia. fog is a low lying cloud and influenced by bodies of water. and you have that near the airport. when you get reports of freezing fog, the mist that comes from the fog is freezing on contact, it's an extremely dangerous situation and it often leads to a lot of accidents and skidding. >> that is a tricky phenomenon, that could definitely be a factor. this system is coming through and the visibility will continue to be compromised and we have heavy bands of snow once again. we have been seeing heavy bands of snow on and off throughout the morning. hasn't been a whole lot of snow accumulation but we have been getting bands of heavy snow. look at the temperatures, we're all below freezing. so

let's go to msnbc meteorologist domenica davis and talk about the relief especially for our friends.ogether in new england and boston. we can feel for them. >> certainly. i'm sure there's a lot of people looking for those lobsters too. they better get going. a lot of people today are being affected by the weather. frances, this is a 1500-mile stretch of bad weather we're looking at today, all associated with this front. here's a look at the winter weather warnings and advisories we have on tap for this afternoon that go right into this evening. it extends all the way from the northeast down through the southern plains. so this system is affecting everybody. you can see all that rain right now starting to get sleet developing in the louisville area. it's starting to push into cincinnati as well. now, this is all going to continue as we head through the evening commute. it's going to be a tough evening commute with falling temperatures. that means the rain that we have now through the ohio valley and the northeast will change over to sleet and freezing rain and then eventually snow. co
