. >> reporter: a fifth defendant, dominic pazolla, was found not guilty of seditious conspiracy, though he was convicted of other serious charges. federal prosecutors argued the defendants plotted to unlawfully use force and the crowds to keep former president trump in office. although the group's ex-leader, enrique tarrio, was not in d.c. on january 6th, prosecutors allege that he was involved in planning ahead of the attack and pointed to a message he sent during the riot saying, quote, make no mistake, we did this. >> the jury has spoken, and that's our system of justice. very disappointed in the verdict. >> reporter: defense attorneys argue that it was former president trump, not their clients, who was to blame for the violence. they're planning to appeal the convictions. now that seditious conspiracy count comes with a maximum of 20 years in prison. some believe the verdict could also empower federal prosecutors to bring charges against other key figures accused of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election, so a lot to still watch out for here. >> definitely. jarred hill
