i'm meteorologist dominica davis with an update on the winter storm hitting the country. we are looking at blid conditions thou northern illinois and northwestern independence independent. winter storm warnings stretching up into new england. we are starting to see the snow heavy coming out of chicago. clearing west to east. heavy snow through detroit. rain snow mixes through indianapolis and through pittsburgh. that is pushing off to the east. snow developing in you new england after midnight. snow already pushing into the new york city areas. seeing light snow showers right now. that will continue through the morning commute. here's how it looks on future cast. as we roll through the overnight. all snow for new england. 7:00 in the morning, rain snow line is over the city. we will have freezing rain over new york and points south through much of the morning commute. and the snow and freezing rain is going to last through the bulk of your monday along with very cold temperatures coming into the forecast. we'll have an update in another hour. for now, back to regular prog

let's go to dominica davis, our meteorologist standing by. you've seen the video. talking about the cold temperatures and al roker, our colleague at the "today" show made the point that out west they're seeing above average temperatures. >> yeah. so we've had this pattern where it is spring like temperatures to the west. for us no signs of spring any time soon. i want to start with the wind chills. this is something you don't see often. look at this. pretty much every city here on this map has a wind chill below zero. it is a significant wind chill. it feels like minus 8 in boston. syracuse minus 13. minus 19 in buffalo. this has eased up. earlier this morning, boston was minus 28 for the wind chill. they haven't seen cold temperatures like that since 2004. so for many places along the great lakes and northeast, this is the coldest temperatures we have seen in close to a decade in some places. here is a look at the brand new storm. cold air is making it to the south. tennessee, paris, tennessee, don't get snow often, bowling green, they're getting in on the snow. p

. >>> let's get a check on your weather from nbc meteorologist dominica davis. the south, all of new england, and it's coming back again. >> this is going to translate into a no big deal for them which is good news. >> oh, good. >> they are going to get a little bit of snow showers through the late morning, early afternoon. i want to show you the radar what we have going on. this system coming through, it did make for decent snow through the beltway. the heaviest snow showers this morning are hugging the eastern shore of maryland pushing up through the jersey shore, passing the philadelphia area now. the leading edge is pushing up into providence. this snow does make it into new england. it is just going to take until probably after the commute. a tough commute for much of i-95. here's a look at the snowfall forecast. this is why it translates into not a big deal for boston because we're expecting only an inch with this system as it's really just a coastal system with not a whole lot of snow. d.c. has had over 5 inches of snow philly is closing in on 4 inches. t

nbc meteorologist dominica davis is here with the timeline. is today the worst of it for new england? >> it absolutely is going to be. it's not so much the snow although they have had plenty of that. the blizzard warning will stay in effect and that's because the winds and cold will be the extreme conditions today. here's a look the at our blizzard warnings. they go up and down the coast going from massachusetts up to maine and that will go right through the overnight. and that is because with winds gusting as high as what could be 60 70 miles per hour blowing and drifting snow will be -- will be the case throughout the day, which means visibility could be down to zero making for blizzard conditions. so here's a look at doppler radar. good news because we're seeing the snow machine wind down. that is great. parts of boston have picked up 19 inches with this new storm that has come in since saturday. still looking at heavy snow bands through southeastern massachusetts. other than that really the snow is leaving. it's the cold and the winds, tho

dominica davis is tracking this storm. where is the problem area now?problem area now is from long island through boston, that's where we are seeing what's left of the snow, it is not a lot of snow, which is good news. we have an inch toll before this wraps up. we are pretty much on the back edge of this and we will be drying out. cold temperatures stay behind it, and the roads are a mess all morning. anything that's fallen has a chance to freeze real fast. that's going to continue to be a problem. look at these temperatures that we are dealing with. this is canada. this is our next arctic air that's going to come into play. it is minus 24 actual air temperature. this will reinforce cold air once again later in the week. so we are looking at temperatures that reach the midwest by thursday four degrees. that's where they bottom out wednesday as well. temperatures in the single digits and that's not even -- those are daytime highs, not even talking morning temperatures which will be below zero. so this is something two-thirds of the country will deal with

our meteorologist dominica davis joins us she's tracking the latest forecast.ood to see you. >> good to see you. we are still talking snow and cold temperatures. these are really cold temperatures coming in. look at the radar, knoxville, tennessee getting in on snow showers. this will push off to the east. good news with this it is not dropping a lot of snow. we expect generally one to two inches. with cold temperatures it will freeze. some higher elevations could see upwards of six inches especially in the maine zone. boston is in that one to three inch range, which is certainly good. here is a look at wind chills. feels like minus 14 in chicago. wind chill warnings in effect for much of the northern plains midwest, down into the ohio valley. wind chills will drop over the next 24 hours, could be between minus 25 and minus 40 in some cases. these are actual air temperatures we expect tomorrow morning. minus 9 in mississippi. minus 7 in chicago. kansas minus 1. that cold air starts to spread further south and east by friday morning and it is another day we coul
