don?porter: the officer, ann, was a bart police officer or maybe two bart police officers who fired at and killed a suspect who was on the platform with a knife. we don't know what the suspect was suspected of doing. we understand there are a couple of different versions of what happened. one person who said he was a witness told us that he heard shots, heard four shots. looked to his left, ran down the platform, saw a man on the ground and a knife not far away. now just a few minutes ago linton johnson, the chief bart spokesman arrived and gave us the official rundown as he has it. here he is. >> at 9:00: -- at 9:33 we got a call and our officers responded. at 10:45 two officers arrived at the platform and they saw a person with a knife. a suspect with a knife who ended up being the suspect who was later pronounced dead. 9:46 we got a call that said there were shots fired by our officers and that's when the investigation started. >> reporter: the investigation involves san francisco polic

>> well, you know, the circumstances, don are, still quite bizarre.aramedics found the body today in her london apartment. we've seen the eerie video of paramedics taking her covered body out on a stretcher and placed in a private ambulance. police got a call to head to a home which matched her address saturday afternoon in response to a woman found deceased. she was pronounced dead on the scene and don, today, an incredible scene outside the singer's home. hundreds of people from fans to police trying to contain that area. many fans were just shocked over this talented singer's short life, an international star who won a handful of grammys back in 2008 with that unforgettable album "back to black." but her personal demons often overshadowed her talent. she was booed off a stage last month. she did a short stint in rehab after that performance where she checked in and checked right back out of rehab. it really was a story of the latter part of her life, a star with so much promise who had to battle personal demons in the public eye. one thing i want t

look at don on the satellite radar composite. a 50-mile-an-hour tropical storm moving west/northwest at 16 but wind shear, strong winds aloft and dry air have kept it from strengthening so coastal impacts will be minimal. texas needs the rain badly as you mentioned, but most of it is south of don's center and will fall across deep south texas. that means no relief for most of the state that is in its worst drought in almost 50 years. 75% of texas in the worst drought category, exceptional, and those areas need at least 15 inches of rain just to put a dent in the drought. ranchers are sending their livestock to market early because they lack grass, rain and water for feed. the drought has been so severe that the u.s. department of agriculture declared the entire state of texas a natural disaster. and, lester, tonight, the lack of rainfall from don has dashed the hopes of many texans tired of the triple digit heat. lester? >> mike seidel, thank you. >>> when we come back here tonight, a caring and generous little girl who inspired

slow to organize is tropical storm don.ile-an-hour winds and about 600 miles from the texas coastline. once it gets into the open waterses of the gulf of mexico, it should strengthen some. there are a lot of uncertainty as to how strong it gets, as we go through the next couple of days. that will be the issue here. here's the forecast track. there's confidence with this. it will hit tomorrow as a tropical storm or a minimal hurricane. this will be good news if it stays in shape and brings a decent amount of rainfall to southern parts of texas. the entire lone star state is under extreme not exceptional drought. severe storms expected across the northern tier, again, including chicago. that's where we find flooding problems across illinois but travel problems as well. i think you'll see major delays throughout the day today. detroit, tampa, orlando, miami as well and san francisco, you might run into some problems. some new research today, talking about folks who live in the northern latitudes. and that the facts that their
